Lesson #29

Post by Korihor »

Believe it or not , I'm in church today!

In an effort not to embarrass my parents in their ward. I'm biting my tongue super hard right now.

"How many here have been to nauvoo?" Almost every hand goes up.

"We visited Warsaw that was near nauvoo, this was the town where the mob formed to murder JS. It was such a stark difference from nauvoo, it felt desolate and run down. We think it suffered because of what they had done here.

I would have loved to live in nauvoo , imagine a place of no police, no crime and peace. That's what nauvoo was.

(Half the class pipes up) The spirit of God

Yes, the spirit of God , it was like fire coming down from heaven.

D&C 124
What can think about the lord calling specific people by name to go on mission? Why is this in our scriptures?

4 of the 5 nmed in This section eventually left the Church and apostatized. There were worthy of those blessings at that time but eventually forfeited their blessings because of their choices .

"This is not an eagle court of honor"

In priesthood opening exercises they are presenting a 18 yr old kid with his eagle Award since he is leaving on a mission in 2 weeks but won't be able to have a proper eagle court.

This is crazy!

My bad - he's going to MTC on Wednesday

But imagine what a magical Willy Wonkaland it could be like if the church pumped the equivalent millions of dollars into it as Nauvoo.

A few weeks ago we sang the spirit of God in SM. I noticed that W.w Phelps wrote the words. It was sung at the Kirtland temple dedication in 1836. However, the music for the hymn was not written until 1844. So, what tune was these words sung to at the dedication?

I like to imagine that it was something like Row Row Row Your Boat or Pop Goes the Weasel.

We had lesson 31 about marriage. I can't be specific because it would out me if anyone saw, but let's just say it didn't go well for me and revisionist history is strong in our ward.

What kind of revisionist history? Faithful, Critical, or Unbiased?
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.

The kind that reads scriptures about plural marriage while pretending it didn't happen.

In a twist of irony, I understand the D&C much better as an undercover apostate than I ever did as a TBM. But strangely no-one wishes to benefit from my knowledge!!
