New Linkin Park song just out. Not one of their best songs, for sure, but I thought it had a NOM type tone.

This song lost to David Bowie at the Grammys, which is fine company as far as I'm concerned. I'm finding the message meaningful in my truth journey. Enjoy!

Yes, I really like this band. Here is one of my favorites from them. I think this is about losing a friend (Lydia) to drugs.

Yes, this one has been stuck in my head the last two days. Super great band.

Wooden Jesus

Wooden Jesus where are you from?
Korea or Canada, maybe Taiwan?
I didn't know it was the holy land
But I believed from the minute the check left my hand
And I pray

Can I be saved?
I spent all my money on a future grave
Wooden Jesus I'll cut you in
On twenty percent of my future sin

Porcelain Mary her majesties pure
Looking for virgin territory
Coat hanger halos don't come cheap
From television shepherds with living room sheep
And I pray

Can I be saved?
I spent all my money on a future grave
Wooden Jesus I'll cut you in
On twenty percent of my future sin
“Sir,' I said to the universe, 'I exist.' 'That,' said the universe, 'creates no sense of obligation in me whatsoever.”

After the today's international events, this song started going through my head.

For me the soundtrack has to include Trooper, a Canadian band from the 1970s. They had a hit "We're Here for a Good Time (Not a Long Time)" that speaks to me. The chorus says "We're here for a good time, not a long time, so have a good time the sun can't shine every day."

Not surprisingly it was banned from Church dances along with Madonna's Like a Virgin, the Violent Femmes' Blister in the Sun, and Doctor and the Medics' remake of Spirit in the Sky.

I hadn't heard this Imagine Dragons song before, listened to it this week and some of the lyrics hit me as NOM.

Imagine Dragons - Thief
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HASolTSK_T8

Here's the part of the song I'm talking about:

So take me back
When I believed
Back when I was unafraid
Just like a thief

And all the heights
That I could reach
Back when I was unafraid
Just like a thief

I just heard this today and it made me think of this thread! Great song.

In my journey out of religion I've tried to stay away from getting too angry or dismissive of people's faith but I love this song. It's not about religion per se but sometimes it's nice to just say-Screw everybody and everything. Especially when it comes to some of mormonism's bullcrap ;)

I love the band Incubus. One of their songs has stuck with me and sometimes helps me to get through anxious times. Drive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgT9zGkiLig

I've italicized some of the lyrics that are meaningful to me:

Sometimes, I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear
And I can't help but ask myself how much I'll let the fear
Take the wheel and steer

It's driven me before
And it seems to have a vague, haunting mass appeal
But lately I am beginning to find
That I should be the one behind the wheel

Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes

Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there, I'll be there

So if I decide to waiver my chance
To be one of the hive
Will I choose water over wine
And hold my own and drive?

It's driven me before
And it seems to be the way that everyone else gets around
But lately I am beginning to find
That when I drive myself my light is found

So whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes
Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there, I'll be there

Would you choose water over wine
And hold my own and drive?

Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes
Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there, I'll be there

Moments when I'm still trying to unlearn dysfunctional shame...
"You can feel the punishment but you can't commit the sin..."
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fsqZmbvL1 ... e=youtu.be

When my heart breaks again from relationships torn apart because of a cult-like religion...
"Baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor (you know)
I used to live alone before I knew you
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
And love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah"
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=y8AWFf7EA ... e=youtu.be

Moments of strength...
"In this world
It's hard to tell the shadow from the light
What is real
Can find a way to hide behind the lies
Don't be fooled
Or ruled
By voices all around you
'Cause your road, will always be revealed...
If you lead with your heart,
it's the one thing you can trust, to always come from love..."

Ooh, I've got some fun ones to add today.

"Gronlandic Edit" by of Montreal

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBfgQvM7wtE

"I guess it would be nice to give my heart to a god, but which one, which one, do I choose?
All the churches filled with losers, psycho and confused
I just want to hold the divine in mine
And forget all the beauty is wasted."

Really a sonic treat. Most enjoyable.

"Naughty" from Matilda
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKm1h0X6CB0

"But nobody else is gonna put it right for me
nobody but me is gonna change my story
sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty."

"River of Deceit" by Mad Season
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fm72DPJCX58

"My pain is self-chosen
At least, so the prophet says
I could either burn
Or cut off my pride and buy some time
A head full of lies is the weight, tied to my waist"

"In the Name Of" by Basia Bulat
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWsmso89YQk

"I thought I would break the spell
Oh, maybe I, maybe I never will
...
Why am I living in the name of?"

Been enjoying some Spotify premium lately. Good times. :D

Just found this song, I love it. I think I have listened to it 6 times by now.

I think we are all pretty familiar with the sound of silence here. At first it was heartrending. Then it was infuriating. Then it changed to a dull ache. At some point it turned into a peaceful comfort.

I found a new song that I am digging - Despacito
Yes, it's the most popular video ever on youtube, and for good reason in my opinion.
I'm really digging this song because it epitomizes everything I did in the opposite my entire life, specifically regarding dating/intimacy. I was taught sex was basically for procreation - just get to the point. But this song glorifies seduction and spicy romance.

It helps if you know Spanish to understand the lyrics. If there is one thing I'm grateful for of serving a mission, it's to understand this song.

P.S. I want to move to Puerto Rico and hang out with this singer.

Ugh...Despacito is making my ears bleed. ;)

No doubt it's because my kids LOVE that song and listen to it all the time. That and Ed Sheeran's 'Shape of you'...please make it all stop.

But speaking of what the kids dig, I keep listening to this friggin' song. Reminds me to be humble and gives me a handy pop culture-y phrase to use when my kids get too big for their britches.

Kendrick Lamar - HUMBLE *warning* there is a fair dose of salty language.

Sleeping Dogs - Zakk Wylde

Not what one expects from Zakk, video makes me laugh every time, but the words are awesome.

https://youtu.be/3Pv7jAKIPa0

You couldn´t find your peace
Within the bitterness that burns
For the sleeping dogs that lie
Forever to return, forever to return
Gone but not forgotten
You cut me down just to watch me bleed
Gone but not forgotten
I gave you the last word and that´s the last thing you'll take from me
Isn´t justice that you hope?
Believe in the story that you sell
For the Sleeping Dogs that lie
They are live and well, live and well
Gone but not forgotten
You cut me down just to watch me bleed
Gone but not forgotten
I gave you the last word and that´s the last thing you take from me
Gone but not forgotten
You cut me down just to watch me bleed
Gone but not forgotten
I gave you the last word and that´s the last thing you take from me
The last thing you take from me
The last thing you take from me

Disclaimer : I am a snob who only listens to classical music, and thinks pretty much everything else is just noise.

Now that that's out of the way, I think you would enjoy the organ works of César Franck, and his Chorals have provided an excellent backdrop for me to think deep thoughts.
https://youtu.be/zkscrIYm_9A?t=29m20s is his 3rd choral. Fair warning : it is a full 13 minutes of magnificence.
If you want more, his 2nd choral is at 15:00, and if you fall in love, well, there are two more hours waiting for you!
