Never argue with JackAss

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Never argue with JackAss

Post by Rob4Hope »

I have to remember an ancient proverb:

"Never argue with a JackAss. You loose the argument, and you make the JackAss bray loud and hurt ears."

This applies to the fantasies that creep into my mind of being in a Q/A session with a member of the Q15, and asking a direct question. Of course they wont answer, and all the TBM in the room will probably come close to lynching me.

I also remember an interesting thing from a Sci-Fi show I watched years ago....StarGate, SG1. There was a kid who was some god-like thing (ascended), and he gave Dr. Jackson a dream. In that dream, Jackson was given all he wanted...all the power, all the smarts,...the works. Jackson basically destroyed himself and everyone else. The kid taught Jackson,..there are some things that are too powerful, and the only way to win is to not engage at all.

For some reason this totally fictitious story applies to me, coupled with the JackAss one.

You can't win an argument or even get a straight answer from the church. They will blast you. They will, because such a Q/A ONLY happens on their turf, and they set the rules of engagement--which are they are right in all situations, circumstances, and times. If you happen to slip in a question, you will get JackAss blasted,...like the story out there of when a kid at the MTC asked Bruce McConkie about a passage in the BofM and its relationship to Shakespeare.

Dealing with the "JackAss" culture is an exercise in personal self control and patience for me. Why?...because engagement is futile, which means I have to hold the arguments and the questions inside, knowing there are answers but those answers will never come from the "True Church" that decides to change what truth even means...

Anyone ever listen to Gabriel Iglesias?..."Lord, give me Strength. Give me strength Lord to NOT kill Nacho Libre..."

No kidding....

The way I heard it was, "You don't mud wrestle a pig. You'll both get dirty and the pig likes it."

I recently discovered this show. It is as good as David Carradine's yellow face--which is to say, extremely.
