Have our friends at the COB found this site yet?

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Have our friends at the COB found this site yet?

Post by Not Buying It »

On the old NOM board there was a debate from time to time as to whether the COB monitored the site and tried to discover the identities of posters. Personally I think there is little question that they monitor the site. Call me paranoid, but I also think they try to discover our identities, and I wouldn't really be too surprised if they already have for a lot of us. There is a culture of control in the Church, a history of dealing harshly with dissenters, and a total and complete lack of boundaries - why wouldn't you think they are trying to find out who we are? Aren't the underground disbelievers more dangerous to the organization than its obvious enemies?

So here's the question - how long do you think it took about our friends at the COB to find the new site?

By the way - hi friends at the COB! Tell your bosses that the new mormonandgay website isn't fooling anybody.

They probably have a live feed from the NSA Data Center in Bluffdale, Utah. Remember, many LDS employees work there and their first oath is to the Church. Once the data is transferred to the COB, NOM is probably one of the most enjoyable of assignments for ferreting out both praise and misgivings of the NOMinees for the Church. Imagine their delight in transcribing conversations between Corsair and Red Ryder.

It would be right neighborly if we could drop off a dozen mixed chocolate and glazed donuts to Subgroup 7, Cubicles 1-4, on the 17th floor of the COB.

Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

I hope they find me, please come get me during SM. Anything to get me out of the boring meeting.

I couldn't care less if they know who I am. That might finally be the reason I've been waiting for to stop attending entirely.

Seriously, does anyone know the IP range associated with public address of the COB? I would start looking at the server logs for this address. I have not yet seen "lds.org" show up in the logs. "216.49.176.33" is the address associated with lds.org, but this does not imply that it's also the public address of the COB.

I think they have a range of 1.20 - 1.22 gigawatts, it seems like they're stuck back in the past and can't quite see into the future.

I'd be very surprised if they haven't seen the url posted on Reddit and in various FB groups. I'm also willing to bet they have an entire staff (or a staff of unpaid 'missionaries' serving the Lord) whose task is to stalk the sites, run bots on them, filter the information and analyze it.

They probably already had a meeting similar to the one we saw in the video about Wikileaks. Maybe somebody asked if the people who started this site are gay?

I don't really want my identity known but I'm also really apathetic about it. Find me. Don't find me. I don't care. Life is easier for me if they leave me alone, but honestly it would be refreshing to get excommunicated or something. Jesus take the wheel.
Even if it's something disappointing, it's still better to know the truth. Because people can deal with disappointment. And once they've done that, they can feel that they have really grown. And that can be such a good feeling. -Fred Rogers

If the COB is watching this site - maybe I'll poke the bear with a stick.
