The evils of cell phone & video games.

Post by LostMormon »

Last week, we had the talk about the evils of cell phones, and video games. the talk basically consisted of how proud he was of himself, that nobody can reliably get a hold of him on his cell phone, and how little he checks is own cell phone. He doesn't often check his cell phone, but when he does it's for righteous reasons, such as using LDS tools, and pulling up the scriptures

According to him, I forget the exact number, but a person checks his phone over 300 times a day, he however had only checked his cell phone 13 times up to that point in time. (well ain't you a saint!)

He then proceeded to say how disappointed he was that video games, and cell phones have not been mentioned more in general conference. and was appalled when he overheard 2 teenagers that had never met before, bonding and talking about some evil video game they both enjoyed. He never explained why cell phones, and video games are evil, but from his condescending tone, it was quite obvious they were the tools of the devil, unless you use it for righteous reasons, like he does of course!

while I agree that cell phones, and video games can become a distraction, perhaps even an addiction if allowed to go too far, they are a part of society, and we need to learn and teach our children how to use them properly, without going overboard. I just don't think that getting up on a soap box and telling everybody how little he uses the tools of the devil is going to help anybody much.

Anyway my rant for the day, thanks for reading.

Funny how his rant is cloaked in righteousness is so damn prideful.

Did you pull out your phone and start playing on it?

Someone should have gotten his number off the ward website and then blew up his phone during his talk

Or, whoever he home teaches should get up next FT meeting and cry that she couldn't get a hold of her HT because he never checks his phone!

I love this stuff because it demonstrates how crazy people in the church are becoming. Did they do this when the typewriter was around? Or the color TV? Or the personal computer? Or the polio vaccine?

This reminded me of a lesson once where the teacher went around the room and asked if the kids had a cell phone and at what age it was considered appropriate for a cell phone. Every parent in there answered yes, their kid had one, and then rationalized and justified why it was ok for their 6 year old to have a smart phone. It was really bizarre.

I'm not sure about the typewriter, but the TV, and personal computer? absolutely. When I was growing up, the TV was Satan's tool of choice, I remember my mother threatening to throw it out the window several times, and we only had like 3 channels. That was then replaced by the PC, video games & the Internet. I'm sure we have all heard the talks about moving your PC into a public area, so it's harder for anybody to view porn or play video games.

The PC is now being replaced by the cell phone, in fact this guy mentioned how the cell phone is even worse than the PC, because you can't move your kids phone into the living room to discourage them from viewing porn. the only solution is to strengthen yourself, and your kids with scripture study, and the gospel, because it's not a matter of if, but when they will viewing porn.

I was already playing on it

Of course I was only using it to access LDS tools, and study my scriptures, and had only check it 12 times up to that point, as I looked around, I noticed others trying their best to discreetly tuck their phones back into their pockets.
