Dinner with EQP coming up

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Dinner with EQP coming up

Post by Enoch Witty »

So we moved recently, and my buddy is in the EQ presidency and sent out an email to the EQ the night before the move, despite my not having been to church in six months. The EQP showed up to help load up the truck and then headed out.

He's a good guy. We don't have much in common, but he has a nice family and whatnot. I followed up to thank him and tell him I would bring his family pizza. He said, no, that's unnecessary, and eventually just lol'd at me when I tried to make it happen. Whatever, his loss.

But what's funny is that he did take my reaching out to him as an opportunity to invite us over for dinner in a couple weeks. Even though we're not really friends, I didn't see any reason to turn down a kind invite, but it's hard to not think of it as a (misguided) reactivation effort. That said, my prediction is that my inactivity is not broached, except perhaps a passing, "We'd love to see you at church" or something along those lines.

What is most likely to happen at this dinner? Remember: outlandish predictions are the best predictions.

Maybe his wife has a new meatloaf recipe she wants to try out? Or are they Amway representatives?

Maybe they recognize their social status is tied to their ward and you guys seem like cool people to hang out with?

During the move did they find any sex toys under a mattress? Perhaps they want to know more about good vibrations?

Who knows?

i don't know how outlandish this is, but you'll know the reactivation effort is on if the missionaries are there, also.

Its going to be a swinging party. He will try to invite you into the new "and improved" everlasting covenant.

Sounds exciting. He is just being kind and getting to know you. Perhaps you could take over a nice bottle of wine for dinner, or the CES letter for an after meal dessert and discussion.

Once when we were new in a ward, the Institute Director's family invited us to dinner. Our kids were about the same age. After dinner it turns out he had a "message" prepared which turned out like a FHE, and he asked us about our scripture study habits. Awkward.
Watch out for bait and switch.

I always thought of it as the the "new and everlasting covenant with benefits". This might explain 19th century policies.
