Temple recommend barcode
Temple recommend barcode
Just realized my TR has not expired. I have several more months. There is a barcode on the TR. What is this used for?

Re: Temple recommend barcode
Your recommend status is kept in the church's database. After your recommend is signed by the stake president, the stake clerk will activate it in MLS. When you go to the temple they scan the barcode and it looks up the status of your recommend. This allows the church to cancel your recommend in the event it is stolen, or if you were to refuse to surrender your recommend when asked.
Re: Temple recommend barcode
Several years ago I went to the temple with my wife. It was the first time I had gone since renewing my recommend. They scanned it and there was a problem. They had me wait while they contacted my bishop. They eventually let me in but evidently the stake clerk had not activated my recommend properly.

Who needs revelation and the power of discernment when you have computers?

I thought the barcode was supposed to be on your right hand, or your forehead?

OMG! Remember on the old board SamBee's rectal scanning thread? Your comment made me think of that.
So for those of you who weren't on the old board, there was a thread about fingerprint scans for getting into the temple. Then someone suggested the possibility of a retinal scan, but he wrote "rectal" instead. Good times!
Where is SamBee? I miss him.

Confession: Back when I used to work in the temple, I let people in a few times when the screen turned red just to avoid holding things up and making a scene.
Re: Temple recommend barcode
This is creepy. I was wondering if you could just create a recommend, add a barcode to it that was perhaps a TBMs and it would scan and get the green light. It has probably been done.dareka wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2017 1:08 pm Your recommend status is kept in the church's database. Re: Temple recommend barcode
It should be easy. If you can borrow someone's (or even your own) and figure out what data is represented on the barcode (membership number might be tricky to get access to, but you can get stake, ward, name info easily) you could forge one.
Of course you could just show up at SM for a month, renew your TR by getting all the questions right and then you'd have a real one. Probably easier.
