Cash register installed during open house?

Does anyone know if they have the cash registers set up in the clothing rental bay during the open house?
Or do they set that up after the crowds have gone so the public doesn't see the money changers in the temple?

This was always a big problem for me, cash registers in the temple. Like most, I got over it and put it on my shelf. But it ALWAYS bothered me to go in this "holy place" and hear the loud Ca-ching of the cash box and the beeping buttons. Seriously, they couldn't be mildly discrete and get a quieter machine?

Would it really have been that difficult to get something just a less obtrusive that doesn't distract from the special spirit in the temple? They couldn't install an honor box where just take what you need and drop some coins in a box? The cafeteria in the basement didn't really bother me, even if they take your money there. I get it, a free meal isn't included, so what. But charging for a few threads to attend the place you are heavily coerced to patronize after paying 10%. That one was very fishy.

The other thing I really hated was the industrial grade cabinet lockers in the dressing rooms and the loud slam of the doors. Again, God's house was industrial grade? What happened to the best of the best?

I'm glad I won't be going back, but it's still frustrating to look back on.

Korihor, Are you talking about Temple Open Houses? I just attended one last week. No, there were no displays of cash registers. Funnily enough (not really, though), the 1 mph tour with 7 Ushers in every 4 cubic foot area, did not include a walk-through of the Initiatory areas, either. No touring through the locker rooms or dressing areas. No displays of temple clothing, hats, or veils. I was really bothered by this. My kids were robbed of an opportunity for education, here.

Oh, sure-- walk the public through the sort-of-normal & (more) beautiful rooms of the temple. But, make sure to leave out the creepy parts. (If it's too creepy to show to the general public, MAYBE YOU SHOULDNT EXPECT young patrons to go through these creepy/offensive (especially for women) things, uninformed!)

I learned something interesting today, that in early days members who were busy could pay other members to do their temple work for them, and they had clerks at the temple to do all of the money changing.

I would so be on board with this. Can I pay someone to sit through the TR interview too?

It's like at school when you can participate in a fundraiser or make a donation to relieve you of further responsibilities.

Now I'm thinking about everything else that I could outsource. VT, giving talks, saying prayers, cooking for potlucks, cleaning toilets...

I don't get the temple. Never did. Heaven knows I tried, but getting close to god there never seemed like an option. So sterile and sanitzed. I prefer a mountain instead. Seems to me the scriptures are much more replete with men getting visions in the wild than in a building.

I 'got' the temple for a little while, then after I had scrapped the surface I realize how shallow it was. The day I thought, "This? This is the pinnacle of worship? I find a sunset or gazing at the stars infinitely more spiritual and wondrous than this." was the day my temple attendance went on life support and my pulling the plug was only a matter of time.
