Does anyone have experience with how it is to be Catholic and gay? I don't know much about it. Are there measurable suicide rates attributed to being gay like there are in the LDS church? I just read what seems like the official Catholic stance on homosexuality.
Found here if you are interested. http://www.catechism.cc/articles/homosexuality-sin.htm
If anything they take a more direct and harder line then the church does, but their culture is decidedly less rigid as well.
Catholic and gay experiences?
Re: Catholic and gay experiences?
I had a friend on another board who was both Catholic and gay. He found solace in attending the Anglican Church, which he referred to as "Catholic-lite". I suppose when one religious institution cannot rise to the challenge of embracing "the other" with love, there is always another religious choice that can answer the call.

Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

I assume he found it too hard to be a cafeteria Catholic? Did he have an experience similar to Mormonism?
Re: Catholic and gay experiences?
Yes. He liked posting on the Discuss Mormonism board at Beliefnet. I think he chose to go to the Anglican Church rather than the Catholic Church because it was more accepting. When you consider how many priests and others in holy orders have been closeted or cloistered gays over the last two thousand years, you would think Catholics might be more tolerant. Of course, I suppose you could also make that argument about Congressional Republicans.
