My Mom is on Life Support
My Mom is on Life Support
So... not sure how to begin with this. My mom had what appears to be a stroke tonight, and after being revived and taken to a local hospital she isn't breathing on her own. Diagnosis is very uncertain, but she appears to be at least stable.
I guess... I miss having a faith that might have provided comfort, I suppose. On the other hand I seem to be thinking that this is the natural course of things. News like this hits a person in strange ways.
Anyway, I know some of you probably have dealt with it similarly, not believing so much in the eternal family doctrine, etc. I want to be optimistic, but her health has declined in the last few years and I'm just not sure. Appreciate you guys a lot though.

We all understand how things like this make you miss your previous faith. I am sorry for this. My cold dark apostate prayers will be sent your way. I don't know what to say that is uber comforting. When things are raw turn to what gives you hope. If that's us, thanks.

Regardless of faith it's difficult to see a family member go through this. It's never easy. Remember to breath and take care of yourself.

Best wishes, hope it gets better soon.

This is a really tough situation. It doesn't matter that it's a naturally occurring phenomena, it's still scary and forces you to confront eternity and mortality.

Re: My Mom is on Life Support
When my mother was on life support, it truly sucked. I was a TBM and it truly sucked. My mother ended up succumbing. We had plans. We were going to go shopping. Do you know how badly I needed girl time with my mother? My children were young and would never truly know her. Death was rude. Didn't schedule an appointment. Didn't call in advance. Just. Plain. Rude.
Eternal families and all that. Yada, yada, yada. Comforting and all. Sure. But I needed my mother, now!
I'm sorry your mother is on life support. I know for a fact, it truly sucks. The doctrines of the church only offered comfort after I had grieved the present-tense loss. That took awhile. If your mother doesn't pull through, the grief of your present-tense loss will probably look the same as someone who doesn't believe. By the time you've worked through that, you'll probably have figured out how this all works out in the eternities, at least enough to give you some peace.
If she's at LDS hospital, I can tell you the cafeteria used to have pretty good soup and a really delicious toffee chocolate chip cookie. I saw an omelette station that looked truly promising and heard good things about, but never tried it.
Gosh, I'm sorry your going through this.

She was still pretty out of it but she was joking a little bit, I think that's always a good sign.
