Famous Mormons/ex-mormons
Famous Mormons/ex-mormons
I was surprised that
Ryan Gosling,
Aaron Eckart,
Amy Adams and
Christina Aguilera
were lds, but now a bit more like some of us who have as Ryan's mom said come to see it as religious zealous.
Groucho Marx was also baptized lds.
Mostly it seems to be the active athletes of the famous people who the church seems to "highlight."
My theory is that sports, the focus is the game and so even if an athlete is having a faith crisis, there would be less of an opportunity to bring it up than in other fields like acting and music in which it becomes more about philosophy - meaning of music or art/film. And maybe partly, the latter are more likely to dig for answers that don't make sense. That and of course, the Hollywood peer pressure.

Grigori Rasputin
Narcissa & Lucius Malfoy
Lucrezia Borgia
Gilles de Rais
Spiro Agnew
Brandine & Cletus Spuckler
Steve Bannon
Vlad Tepes
Donatien Alphonse François
Paula Deen
BTW, Groucho Marx was at first concerned about any organization that would have him as a member, but after he found out that Spirit Paradise had a wonderful peach cobbler he agreed to the posthumous baptism, despite being Jewish.

Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

None of these actors and singers will ever get asked to speak at BYU film school because they don't fit the narrative. Aaron Eckhart is also a returned missionary, but the LDS church just is not compelling to him.

Re: Famous Mormons/ex-mormons
You will rhetorically hear a screech of tires and breaking glass if that guy gets mentioned as a famous Mormon. My mission president mentioned Ted Bundy as the final expression of porn usage. He was thanksful that Ted's LDS membership did not get mentioned during the arrest or trial.

Kevin Rahm. As a fan of Mad Men, I really enjoyed Kristy Money's interview with him. He talks about his time in the BYU film/theater dept.

Thanks for the responses. Interesting to learn of more who are kind of in our small raft drifting from the good ship lollipop.
It seems that little by little the other side of the picture of the church is being shown - definitely not by the church of course.
But with the internet, there's more about the aprox. 70% of Mormons who are "inactive."
True.

Re: Famous Mormons/ex-mormons
Just about everybody whose names have been culled through history references will end up on the baptism for the dead roles.
I've wondered how the names Mickey and Minnie Mouse made it through the sealing process without someone picking up on it, but if that couple could escape detection then there is hope for the Malfoys and Spucklers.
