Anybody familiar with community OF Christ ? I REALLY LIKE THEIR WEBSITE AND THE MESSAGES THEY TRY TO PUT OUT . Just wondering if the church culture is really like that or it just superficial on the web ? Hope to hear back from someone with experience with them .
thanks.

Re: CofChrist
I'm not an expert. This is my understanding.
They don't believe in any of Joseph Smith's post'-1831 revelations. That takes WofW and polygamy off the table.
They believe the BofM is scripture. They have an open canon. Their canon is more open than ours. I think they actually vote, too.
What I think is especially brilliant is how they handle the priesthood. The priesthood is open to both genders. Everyone is given the priesthood, but each individual gets to decide how far they want to take it. In other words, if you have enough on your plate and can't handle a hefty calling, you don't have to. If you love the church and want to get on the leadership track, you may. I heard a podcast where they were interviewing a woman who was a seventy and her husband was an elder. This was by their choice and they were both fine with it.

I like the idea of both genders having the priesthood . Same with kind of go your own way or pace. I did read that they take no stand on the BOM it's all up to the person in what they want to believe and it is not a test of faith . I also don't believe you should be required to have a temple recommend interview I think anyone that is a member should be able to go regardless of if they are observing all the rules or not !!!!

I agree. I forgot about not having to accept the BofM. It's my understanding their temples are different. They're more like places of learning. Hence, they are used for worship services and they are open to all. If you've been to the Kirtland temple, it's radically different. In fact, as a believing member, that temple caused some cog dis for me and I know I'm not alone in that.Rebel wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2017 6:26 pm I like the idea of both genders having the priesthood . However, that opens up the question of whether it can truly be as worshipful once the nude clogging is removed from the ceremony.Give It Time wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2017 8:13 pm It's my understanding their temples are different. Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

I attended a local CofC meeting two weeks ago. Small congregation, very nice people. A young sister, a convert from the "Utah" branch, gave one of the best talks on the Two Great Commandments I've heard.
A local 70 was presiding. I was able to speak to her, that's right, HER! for a bit. She was great. I related a story shared with me by one of my missionary nephews. He had a 70 visit his mission and sit down one on one with the missionaries. He was told:
"I want you tell everyone back home you had a chance to meet me. Its a great opportunity to meet one of Christ's representatives."
On relating this story I told her I could now claim the same privilege and would be sharing my experience with everyone. She looked at my with twinkle in her eye and a laugh and said "I had no idea we were so important!"

Nude clogging would hurt. Supportive foundation garments would be very beneficial.

Yea on the issue of the 70s I do not like how the church gives these guys Rock Star status , Sounds like I am even more interested in CofChrist.
They also figure tithing correctly meaning you shouldn't actually starve to pay your tithing which I don't mind saying we have literally gone without food in past years to pay our tithing !!!
