This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

NOMfrence NOMinations Catagory: "Most"

Post by MoPag »

Awards time is almost here!!!! Yay!!! We just have to narrow down our NOMinees and then we can decide by common consent who wins the NOMfrence awards! :D

We have a lot of awards to give away, so I've broken them down into different categories: "Most," "Mental Gymnastics," "Style/Voice," "Topical Guide," and "Special."

Here are the "Most" awards and my NOMinees from what I can remember. (I didn't watch priesthood and I missed bits of Saturday's sessions.)

****Please add your NOMinations too!****

General NOMfrence Category: "Most"

Most Homophobic Comment
They really tended towards more veiled criticisms of homosexuality this time. Really the only one I can remember was in D. Todd Christofferson's hot mess of a talk. He said something about traditional marriage. I will add the quote when they put up the written talks.

Most Sexist Comment
Nelson's story about the girl who gave up a state wide championship to got to RS. Except he said she was a Laurel, which would put her in YW not RS. I think the whole thing was BS really.
L. Whitney Clayton had a lot to say about Mary. He called her a "chosen vessel." I know he didn't make up that phrase, it's scripture, but it is sexist. Mary was a person not a vessel. She had a uterus. But her humanity amounts to more than her reproductive organs. Or maybe just to even things out we could start calling the Q15 "chosen scrotums."

Most Racially/Culturally insensitive
Anyone catch anything for this? I know there must have been some, but I just can't think of them now.

Most Inelegant Use of Tears
Eyring of course
Weatherford T. Clayton This guy cried through his WHOLE talk.

Of course they want it both ways. Goes along with any failed priesthood blessing or bad outcome; it's a test, God's will or you need more faith.

Keep the fear mongering in one talk, then tone it down and offer hope with the next one; up and down and around they go and where the world's headed nobody knows! They may as well break out the seer stones and divining rods and get some use out of them.
