Draper Shelter

Post by Raylan Givens »

I don't know much about Draper. It mainly filled in while I was in the Old Pueblo.

This was a scorching article about the homeless shelter proposal made by the Draper Mayor.

I will go out on a limb here and kind of defend the people of Draper.

I don't know all of the issues with the homeless shelter situation in Draper, but I will be honest and say that if my city proposed building a shelter in my neighborhood I would be opposed. Nothing to do with Jebus, but all to do with property values and the negative impact. We are just now to starting to recover from the housing bust, and I wouldn't want the building of a shelter to kill that.

that's known as NIMBYism (Not In My Back Yard) in the UK, and perhaps elsewhere; I understand the sentiment; however if it is as the headlines have made out: booing a homeless man in deplorable and shameful.
At the halfway home. I'm a full-grown man. But I'm not afraid to cry.

The thing that bothered me the most was how mad everyone was. They basically yelled everyone off the stage. The mayor got two words in and then shut up. They are moving the prison out of draper and putting it out west by the airport (like they do with everything people don't want in the Valley, move it west).

Draper's mayor was in my mission. I knew him fairly well.
All their anger surprised me. They could put it at the old prison site.
