SP going back to his drawingboard
So last weekend The Hague SP visited Den Helder branch to announce the closing.
Branchmembers told him to go f himself.
So people are not going down quietly.

I love the "in-your-face" spirit of the Dutch. Love it. I almost wish I could move there.
Does this mean the branch members actually believe in the church and want to keep attending locally (rather than commuting?)? Were there any further implications to the invitation for the SP to self-abuse? Exactly how was that phrased?

I wish members of my stake were that bold to speak their mind to the SP. It's not really in the Utah Mormon culture.Red Ryder wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2017 4:17 pmGodverdomme Krijg de pleuris dikzak flikker zuig mijn lul sukkel.LostMormon wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2017 2:31 pmwhats the dutch equivalent for that?Meilingkie wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2017 2:17 pm So last weekend The Hague SP visited Den Helder branch to announce the closing.

I translated this phrase "Godverdomme Krijg de pleuris dikzak flikker zuig mijn lul sukkel." into Utah Mormon and it means "that is so unfortunate."

Wonder if we could chalk this up to youthful idealism, that Branch members think of their church as something more than an item on a balance sheet?

Well the members all refused to sustain the motion to close the branch. They told him to take his silly plans elsewhere.Silver Girl wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2017 2:43 pm Does this mean the branch members actually believe in the church and want to keep attending locally (rather than commuting?)? Wow. They all didn't vote unanimously in favor of the SPs wishes. Imagine that.Meilingkie wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2017 9:23 pmWell the members all refused to sustain the motion to close the branch. Even though in Mormon physiology the autonomic nervous response is to raise a hand to the square, this response can be overridden by higher thought processes when properly stimulated.

Who'd a thunk it?
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.

This type of rebelious collective behavior seems unprecedented in modern times. What does a dejected SP do in this situation, get an apostle to come help?

Re: SP going back to his drawingboard
Well, we have Uchtdorf visiting his Stake (and mine) in 2 weeks time......

Re: SP going back to his drawingboard
I feel bad for Uchtdorf.
He must know he's got nothing, there is nothing he can do. Whereas I see the other lot as nepotistic morridor blinkered corporate lackeys, I think Uchtdorf is more aware of how people out of the bubble think. Maybe I've just been listening to all the other transitioning mormons who say that Bednar is a lizard shifting reptilian and Pilot Uchty is the best out of the lot.

At the halfway home. I'm a full-grown man. But I'm not afraid to cry.

Wait, they vote on this stuff? I thought it was more "this is what we're doing" and less "is this OK with you?"Meilingkie wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2017 9:23 pmWell the members all refused to sustain the motion to close the branch. It's probably like sustaining the rest of the leaders, It's just a formality, they don't really have a choice, and voting nay just gets you a trip to the Principals office. It probably won't change the outcome, just sounds like they are bringing in a bigger hammer.
