So this was the first time I went to Church after knowing what I know. It was a lot harder than I expected. Have you ever seen those pics where you can't tell what it is? There is one of a landscape looking picture and you can't make much of it. Then they tell you it's a cow and you can see nothing but the cow.
I can't help but see the cow and I think I thought I would be able to still see the beautiful landscape. Harder than I thought.

You'll likely go through a stage where it's unbearable and the temptation to rock the boat in classes will be very high. Resist that temptation if you can, or if you are willing to pariah yourself, be wise and judicious in how you approach iconoclastic behaviors. Some just opt out of going, I had no choice with my wife and young children needing support at church. Eventually you may see the anger lessen to the point where you're apathetic about it and can take the rhetoric without too much fuss.
YMMV.
This is based on my own NOM journey.
I try now to look at my tribe members from the outside with charity for what psychological stage they are in. At the same time I protect myself and own interests and family first

Good analogy about the picture - then it's about pretending there isn't an elephant in the room.
