Yeah, the GA gets an allowance for having a kid until age 24. 100-200 bucks a month I think but that is more of an allowance I get from God for my kids. And if you have 4-5 kids, that's a lot of money.

I've been thinking about other things that should appear prominently on the slide of reasons people leave. There should be a large bubble that says "The Scriptures." Or better yet, rather than a far left to far right axis, they should have divided it into enemies of the church and friends of the church. I guess they don't realize that many people leave because of the lame-ass pro-church propaganda. They could shove most of the things in the current chart into the enemies of the church half and fill the other half with FARMS, FAIR, Bushman, The Scriptures, correlated material, etc.

What they leave out is personal/ organizational accountability. What they should ask ;..Is there anything we have done or could do better to stop the exodus?Hagoth wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2017 12:31 pm I've been thinking about other things that should appear prominently on the slide of reasons people leave. Instead they label all the external factors and blame the membership for the apostasy they are encountering. Something's listed are just bizarre, like the porn, and sabbath day observance. Seriously? It just shows how out of touch and in love with themselves they are.

Good thoughts, Document. I loved the point you made about LDS working 10 times harder on indoctrination. Is this really necessary to convince people of the truth?
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.

Good points, document. I like how you pointed out the LDS expend 10 times the effort that other denominations do to indoctrinate their youth. Is this really necessary if they have the "One and only true church?"

That can't be true. Number 4 on the LDSLiving list of "10 Reasons You Should Be Mormon" states
http://www.ldsliving.com/10-Reasons-You ... on/s/803404. We have no paid clergy.
Most faiths have a paid bishop or pastor, and that's their life career. But out of our 14+ million members worldwide, from the prophet to the bishops to the members, NO ONE is paid. It is because of our faith in Christ and in the order which God has used to create His Church that we are all willing to volunteer much of our time to it.

If no one is paid...why do they refer to changes to you paycheck due to allowance reduction?

Several years ago, bishops used to receive a living expense as well. I wonder why they eliminated it?

They and stake presidents got a percentage of tithing if I remember D. Michael Quinn"s Dialogue paper on finances correctly.

I agree that they're missing the mote in their own eye, & the 3-hour block is funny because there's some truth to it.20/20hind wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2017 1:50 pmWhat they leave out is personal/ organizational accountability. I'd love to see them repent for teaching cognitive distortions, which have caused suffering (depression, anxiety etc), and to repent about stealing money from the poor and overcharging for worthiness (priestcraft) and misspending sacred funds.
But I don't think it'll happen, so I'm not going to stress too much about it - just some.

Yeah, me too. I really can't stand it. I'm not sure what it is about it that sets me off so much - probably mostly the way it slavishly, unthinkingly, and uncritically rebroadcasts whatever the Brethren or their toadies happen to be saying at any given time. It represents Mormonism at its most sheep-like.Emower wrote: ↑Sat Mar 11, 2017 8:17 pmThat magazine is represents everything I hate about Mormon culture. Really? Wow, I didn't know this. I could easily envision this in the first 100 years of the church, but not in fairly recent history.FiveFingerMnemonic wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2017 3:37 amThey and stake presidents got a percentage of tithing if I remember D.
