Mormons to ban LQBTQ+ Flag

Post by moksha »

The LQBTQ+ flag will be banned from all government buildings, schools, and LDS Church properties.
By The Associated Press
SALT LAKE CITY — Utah became the first state to prohibit flying LGBTQ+ pride flags at schools and all government buildings after the Republican governor announced he was allowing a ban on unsanctioned flag displays to become law without his signature.

Gov. Spencer Cox, who made the announcement late Thursday night, said he continues to have serious concerns with the policy but chose not to reject it because his veto would likely be overridden by the Republican-controlled Legislature.

The new law could stoke conflict between the state and its largest city. City buildings in liberal Salt Lake City typically honor Pride Month each June by displaying flags that celebrate its large LGBTQ+ population. Local leaders have illuminated the Salt Lake City and County Building in rainbow lights to protest the flag ban each night since the Legislature sent it to Cox’s desk.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

I think this was just plain dumb what the state legislature did. I am a supporter of LGBTQ people.
To be transparent, I was not a fan of gays commandeering the rainbow. I used to have a rainbow air freshener on my rear view mirror and so there was that problem.
I recommend LGBTQ do another takeover.
Suppose they gays organized and decided to abandon the rainbow flag and instead commandeer something else as their pride symbol?
Here are a few ideas. Please add your ideas as well.
1) The Ten Commandments - make them the Pride flag
2) Confederate Flag: make that the new gay pride flag
3) Texas State Flag: they could take over that as their pride flag

I am much less bothered by LGBT commandeering the rainbow than the racists who commandeered the American flag for MAGots. I heard a black person the other day swear at a truck and mutter “racist pig” just because that truck had huge American flags on its sides. And a year or so ago there was a thing on Facebook saying that if someone has an American flag as their picture, he knows they are racist. In my ATV club, the vehicles with the huge American flag on one side have a huge Trump flag on the other. Yeah, I live in redneck country. So, I am less loyal to rainbows than the flag I learned to treat with reverence. they have disrespected the US flag by wearing in on their back sides or t-shirts. The instructions on how to treat the flag say it should never be worn as clothing.

Besides, the MAGots took over the flags of the old confederacy and “don’t tread on me” and few others they just appropriated. So, why did they even need to ruin the American flag by being so hateful of other Americans.

So, please don’t ask the LGBT community to take up the flag of an established enemy.

Besides, the way the law is written, I think it will also prohibit MAGA’s other commandeered flags such as the Confederacy and “don’t tread on me”.

Better yet, learn the symbolism behind the rainbow flag. Each color means something to the community.
