Re: 'What do you believe?'
Can I just say that Alas's answer was perfect? I have never thought about that stuff as a man, and we are taught to be terrified at the thought of life without God. I swear we should pin her answer up at the top of the Mixed Relationships forum.

Re: Is NOM going the direction of some other online groups?
I think that online social groups like NOM need to fulfill people's needs to be relevant. And that is certainly a worthy goal for us to work toward. For me, I've finally made the break from the Church and my emotional needs for support aren't as urgent as maybe they once were. I've been very busy ...

Re: Bruce Porter, Apologist Fireside
I think this is a dangerous game to play for our stake, the believer that will take this at face value I suppose, but anybody who looks any further into this will start to smell the rot pretty quickly. How many people actually look into this stuff? I think that most people are bored by the effort ...

Re: Chastity & Celibacy for LDS Gays
and any gay or lesbian who listened to them will have wasted their lonely, romantically isolated lives in vain. There is a lot of truth to this. I wasted thirty years of my life as a sexual being trying to be asexual. I missed out on the joys of youthful life and love. I wish so much that I could ...

Re: Biblical christianity/ attending the Mormon church
When I think about how much the Church used to control my mind and emotions and heart, it's almost unbelievable to me. I say--believe what you want. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you're only good if you believe the right things. You don't have to blab about it, but I say--feel no guilt about ...
Re: Nihilism
I think the idea that we die, and that's it... It's inherently horrifying for us humans. Are any of you familiar with H.P. Lovecraft? His spin on nihilism was basically an incarnation of the cold, indifferent universe as horrible monster/gods like Cthulhu. We humans are nothing. And more than that ...

Re: Cobra Kai Season 2
So I actually signed up for YouTube Premium largely to be able to watch Cobra Kai (and I get a student discounted rate, too...). I watched a couple of episodes and decided I needed to watch Karate Kid again. I forgot how great a movie it was (in spite of some of the cheesiness...). I served a ...

Re: Lucifer's Role in Redemption
I think in a lot of ways it helps people to cope when they can deflect blame away. it's easier to blame (or reward) a supernatural force than accept that people you love ultimately make those decisions. that the adversary had a hold on me and that's why I couldn't get answers to my questions. Yep ...

Re: Lucifer's Role in Redemption
I dislike the role of Satan in Mormon theology and culture for three reasons: 1-It actually prevents people from taking responsibility for their own desires and actions. Kind of a variation on "the devil made me do it" 2-It prevents people from accepting and dealing with the fact that it's not Satan ...

Re: LDS Churchs new tactical training facility
What kills me is that it is most likely another Christian group that would light our temples on fire, and not Muslims. It seems that we so easily forget that we're next on the list of least trusted religions in the US.

The Facebook Post About the POX I Wish I Could Make
The following is a post that I really wish I had the cojones to post on Facebook in response to Thursday's surprise revocation of the Policy of Exclusion: This post is about some “inside baseball” stuff about the LDS Church. I apologize to my friends who are not involved—maybe this will be of inter ...

Re: Trends in restroom graffiti
I think the entertainment value of bathroom graffiti is a lost art form due to the iPhone. No need to scribble on the stall walls when you can surf the net, Facebook, and tweet about the consistency of your turds aligning with the GOP! At the U, the graffiti was endemic. One favorite was the "grout ...

Re: Explaining the Dramatic Flip-Flop
The policy reversal is most likely from membership research indicating that the policy was a contributing factor in younger members leaving the Church. The policy turnaround is designed to staunch the bleeding of members and make the Church look less of an ogre. I go to school with twenty-year olds ...

Re: Anyone need to talk through this stuff?
I don't know what one says or does to change minds or have useful dialogue. I've long ago got to the point where if I think there's no bridging the gap, then I don't even bother to engage and in the few instances when I do, I usually regret it because it is a waste of time and energy. I'm fortunate ...

Today Dallin H. Oaks: Sorry, not sorry. If there was ever proof to me that this organization is not led by revelation, but by voices in the heads of octogenarians, this is it. What, did Jesus think same-sex marriage was apostasy, and then change his mind after four years? Not likely. I'm very glad ...

Conversion Therapy Article

I decided to do it, and had a wonderful conversation with the author of the article. She did a great job at expressing my thoughts and feelings about ...
