I don’t want to make my wife cry.
My mom (neverMo) would have been fine with me resigning. She'd think it weird that a person would have to do that to be left alone by la Iglesia, but that's because she saw la Iglesia for what it was.

Re: “By their fruits ye shall know them.” (Matt. 7:20) - Seven years of sex abuse: How Mormon officials let it happen
Wonderment, I really appreciate you putting this into context regarding the decades-long time frame of the Catholic Church sex scandal. Though it's distressing to think it may take so long, it gives me hope that the Boy Scout settlement and these current cases against the Church may be just the ...

Re: “By their fruits ye shall know them.” (Matt. 7:20) - Seven years of sex abuse: How Mormon officials let it happen
I heard an interview with a lawyer who specializes in clerical sexual abuse. He had represented over 100 victims of the the Catholic church (IIRC) and many of the LDS church. He said he didn't know how long he could continue working with Mormon victims because the LDS lawyers are the coldest, least ...

Re: “By their fruits ye shall know them.” (Matt. 7:20) - Seven years of sex abuse: How Mormon officials let it happen
What can I say? How many people including Alas and many others all the way through Sam Young and beyond have been talking about this sh*t for years and trying to beg and plead and scream and shame the church for some measure of reforms. The bottom line is that the LDS church is not a safe place for ...

One suggestion on your letter. I would include a clause stating that you will record any interview that you attend with your children. Furthermore, you reserve the right to publicly publish any part of the interview. Knowing that you will hold them accountable for their actions publicly will have a ...

Too bad Gordo isn't around to prophet-splain away this situation as "a blip here and a blip there." OMG! I imagine this being said in the voice of one of my daughters who not infrequently uses the term "man-splain." Prophet-splainin' is just a further extension of the problemed patriarchy.

First, I want to express support for anyone of you who ever experienced something like this. Second, the Church's response to situations like this tells you everything you need to know about the organization really - there is little concern for the victims, the organization's focus is always on ...

There were 18 years of videos recovered for the hell we went through. During this time, he had all the callings- worked with youth, scouts, bishopric. Callings do not come from God. No spiritual guidance or leadership. 18 years of kids watching this guy get sustained by everyone... Purity culture ...

https://www.yahoo.com/news/seven-years-sex-abuse-mormon-041844796.html Most of the time now Mormonism is at most a minor irritant, like a mosquito bite that's all but disappeared. But, then shit like this comes up and I think of the condescending saying, "They can leave the Church, but they can't ...

I really want to watch this but am pretty sure watching it while my wife is around would be problematic... hopefully I can check it out soon though. I was going to suggest to my TBM wife that we watch it, but I was going make sure I completely got it if somehow it seemed like it might be critical ...

Re: Are LDS hyper-sensitive about religion?
One issue is that all human beings whether they realize it or not have some degree of rejection sensitivity. We are biologically wired to be sensitive to rejection signals whether they are real or perceived. This comes from our tribal heritage where rejection by other human beings was deadly and ...

Re: Are LDS hyper-sensitive about religion?
Many elements of Latter-Day Saint history and doctrine sound weird, cultish, and/or humorous when spoken out loud or by non-members. So, yes, I think many LDS people are hypersensitive about having outsiders - or even insiders in some cases - talk about those things. I think this is a keep ...

Kosh,
I wasn't around for your first NOM days, so I don't know you, but welcome back regardless.
Yours sounds like a pretty unique situation among us NOMies, so I look forward to hearing more about your experiences and thoughts on things.
My best,
A-BoM

RR, I'm so glad you can be there to support your wife through this. Sounds like her family of origin is all Mormon, and I suspect she was raised in the Church. If my understanding of her background is at all accurate, I would think the turmoil and anguish from your wife's faith transition must be ...
