Re: Sidelined at Son's Baptism - Support
I feel your pain and know exactly what you are talking about. It really sucks... I recently had an ordination that I could not perform because I don't believe either. I do not hold a recommend, but we do pay tithing. My DW thought I should still do it, saying that it would still be valid even if I ...

I would take them off immediately and not look back with no problem at all. I do take every opportunity to not wear them when I can though.

I think I will seriously consider this for next year. However, I should not wait until ten minutes before the appointment to tell my dw.FiveFingerMnemonic wrote:I have done the email declaration for the last three years and not any complaints from wife or Bishop.

No amount of blessing can keep you safe from a ward potluck! Yuck. The worst is when you are not sure who actually brought what dish. That is when I go for the food that looks purchased or go hungry until I get home. I don't mind being grateful for the food, but blessing it seems to be a formality ...

I love it!
Good luck with your letter.
I can't wait to hear updates on how it all turns out.

Re: Taking a small one for the team
I told her a family email would be more efficient. When our bp asked about their process this year and for suggestions/comments, I told him we could all save a lot of time and just email him our status next year. He chuckled and said that would be great and allow him to eat lunch with his family ...

Taking a small one for the team
Recently had tithing settlement. I really don't find it necessary and think it is a total waste of so many people's time. This is something important to my dw and she likes to have everyone go as a family. I was going to let them go without me and let her declare my status for me. Not something I ...

Re: The scriptures hold the answers to MOST of life's problems.
That's funny. I heard a very similar line from one of the speakers in sm today. There is a big push to read the BoM every day and find answers to our problems. It is so awesome because it was written for our day. Don't you know!? Some quotes were shared about how your kids would behave, your life ...

Re: Bracing for impact
Good luck Hagoth! I hope they can just let you be. I was approached at church today by the HPGL who wanted to ask me a "personal" question. He asked me if I was a HP because I was on their records as one, but thought it might have been a mistake. (He thought I was too young.) I assured him that I ...

Re: Assumptions of evidence
You can place me in the camp of those assuming there was tons of evidence for the Book of Mormon. I never really gave it much thought at all and just believed what I was taught about it being historical. The historicity of the BOM was being discussed on a blog that I read years ago and many people ...

Re: Where do you find joy in the journey?
Accepting people how they are without worrying about what God would want me to do. (i.e. being way less judgmental) This is a big one. I find myself much less judgmental and more accepting. I also worry less about wasting time. I can now enjoy each moment for what it is and not worry about what I ...

Re: tithing shake down (settlement)
I have come to despise tithing settlement. Is there really a need to come in and sit down with the BP to declare your status? What a waste of everyone's time. This year our ward is giving the year end donation form with a time and date of your assigned meeting for tithing settlement. Of course, if ...

Re: "Hey Batman, some Bruce Wayne is showing!"
Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts. I don't believe the ordinance would be invalid because I am not a believer. And I am fully "worthy" to do it. I may have a conversation with the BP before this all happens and see what he thinks has to be true for the church to be true. I might then give a ...

Thanks for sharing these! I like how you did not get bogged down in details, but clearly explained how your unbelief came about. I will keep these for future reference.

Re: "Hey Batman, some Bruce Wayne is showing!"
Thanks for the thoughts Korihor and Red Ryder. Maybe Mrs. Batman was right in thinking I should do it even with my unbelief. But, sometimes you just want to take a stand you know!? I do like the idea of bringing up an issue or two that I can't resolve and see where he goes with that. Last November's ...

Hey, HIPS I just posted about tipping my hand to the bishop in Mixed Faith Relationships. I try to use my lessons to inoculate them against all the cultural crap that will eventually be taught to them as doctrine. I like what Batman said about teaching the Golden rule. For me, I teach them the ...
