Re: I'm a Mormon campaign.
I believe it's a combo of two things: 1. The longer a video is up, the more views it will get even if it's a small but gradual increase. 2. More importantly, I think the church was pushing a lot more $$$ into the I'm a Mormon videos so they probably got a much bigger trajectory of views early on ...

Re: How do you label yourself regarding your belief?
As Hagoth referenced above, I am one of those using the term hopeful agnostic. I like the mythology of Jesus and parts of the LDS history. The community has been a net positive for me, so I stick around, but know it isn't for everyone. What I am hopeful for, though, has changed to some degree: I don ...

Re: Progressive mormonism
Agree with much of what has been said here. I've been attending church in the SF Bay Area for the last 3 years and even here, it's been interesting to see the differences in wards. Moving here just before the pandemic meant church became the main way to meet people for us, so we stuck around for the ...

Re: Oakland Stake Has Female High Councilors, Bishopric Members
I think this is the new initiative that was announced recently that women will be 'advisors' to the Bishopric - they can't make any decisions or hold any authority, but they're allowed to be in the meetings to give advice. It's something of progress, but it's also nothing depending on the ...

How to Handle Adding Children to the Picture
TLDR: DW and I are both mentally out and plan to have kids soon. Very conflicted about our future in the church and feel like we need to rip the bandaid off before we know what we really want to do in 1,2,5 years, etc. I know there are no easy, one size fits all answers for these things but I would ...

Oakland Stake Has Female High Councilors, Bishopric Members
I live in the Bay Area and went (virtually) to a ward recently where the announcements were given by a female leader who is a "Bishopric advisor." She and another female member of the ward are in all senior leadership meetings at the ward level. There is no "Bishopric only" meeting discussing ward ...

Re: Shared my disaffection in Sacrament Meeting today
I'm so glad you did that, nomnv, it takes a lot of courage. I hope the fallout will be more positive than negative. Appreciate the kind words from folks here. Since we don’t have kids, negative social consequences will likely be less painful. I imagine I would’ve been more hesitant if it meant my hy ...

Re: Shared my disaffection in Sacrament Meeting today
Once in a while I wish that they would ask me to speak so I could do this sort of thing. It won't happen and I probably wouldn't, but the thought is nice. It’s hard to know what to do and I definitely didn’t say everything I wanted nor everything as well as others would. The real question now is “wh ...

Re: Shared my disaffection in Sacrament Meeting today
That talk sounds awesome, I wish I had been there to hear it. It sounds like a tough needle to thread, between the all-in TBM and the reality of a faith transition, but I like your main points. The all-in TBMs were probably unhappy with the talk and will think you are a reclamation project, but the ...

Shared my disaffection in Sacrament Meeting today
Not sharing specifics about who/where I am for privacy’s sake but I recently went in to get my temple recommend renewed and they asked me to give a talk. I’m generally comfortable now with just saying no to stuff but I kinda wanted to do it. So I wrote a talk that was as faithful as I could give (no ...
