Re: Return and Report: Magic Mushrooms in the Desert
for me, it is not clarity, it is not mind expanding, it is mind destroying. .... I've had too many friends, watched their minds get erased. I will not even drink alcohol. I think it’s impossible to know how any of the substances really interact with a person without doing it many times. Set and s ...

Re: Does it really matter ?
I'm always surprised how they recognize god/jesus/angel. How would you know? How would they demonstrate it? What proof could there possibly be that an afterlife human could use to even hope to verify it? Wounds in the hands/feet? How would you verify the source/age? It's all so very much faith and ...

Re: Quoting each other, is it getting worse?
It almost feels like they have a contractual obligation to make a demonstration It's very weird. I wonder if I was a still a TBM if I would notice this and how much it would bother me. It stands out like a sore thumb to me now and honestly I feel like its a bad look from just a missionary ...

Quoting each other, is it getting worse?
I was in the unfortunate situation Saturday of hearing most of the Priesthood Session of GC. It’s been a number of years since I tuned in, and what struck me most was the sheer amount of quoting other living members of the Q15. The language was also structured to make it sound older, I assume to g ...

Re: Significant changes to Salt Lake and Manti Temples
Am I he only one that is bothered by the removal of the murals? What happened to the preservation of “our” history and a reverence to the artisans and craftsmen who created these great structures? Maybe it’s the artist in me and the fact that I own old guitars where the old cracked finish is appre ...

Re: Does Russell Nelson have the guts?
I think you are correct that the believing Right is more dangerous to the leadership than the believing Left. Calling BS and walking away is far less threatening than say a Denver Snuffer situation. Does he have the guts to step up and offer some guidance and clarification for his followers even if ...

Re: Rhetorical Question - warning: political
With media and online echo chambers being what they are you can count on that Trump supporters don’t feel they are making the moral compromises that the left thinks they are. And, as you pointed out, vice versa. I might have posed an inverse question: Would self-identifying liberals vote for Fidel C ...

Re: Restored vs. Continuing Revelation
You aren’t wrong that there are inconsistencies. Like most things in the church the leaders like to have it both ways. I’ve had the doctrine vs policy discussion with my TBM friend many times. It’s doctrine when it needs to be and a policy when it needs to be. The answer is always the church is true.

Re: The Best Two Years?
Best two years? Well no not really. Hardest two years? Probably To me it was a worthwhile experience. I did and gained things I don’t think I would have if I hadn’t of gone. It’s not often in life one can devote oneself to one thing for long period of time, essentially something that is not centered ...

Re: Rhetorical Question - warning: political
Why? because this idea that people should vote for a person because they are nice and kissing babies etc is done. We are in a culture war. People don’t care if the general is nice. They want victories. Why? Because the alternative is worse (they believe this on both sides), that’s why. It’s not illog ...

Ha! Wow it says a lot that this is one of the least likely most outlandish concepts of a post I’ve come across in sometime. My life would experience essentially no change. I would get a good laugh out of it and definitely be curious of how my Mormon family and friends would react but it would just b ...

Re: New Mormon Stories/RFM interview with Egyptologist Robert Ritner
I think the main realization I have had from this is just how simple-minded and juvenile the whole venture is. This pretty much sums up my entire perspective about Mormonism these days Hagoth. A few years back right after I had just finished reading Sapiens I was at a family bonfire where we were ...

Just when i thought they couldn't make the Noah story any less plausible. Were you there!? I wish! No I just stumble upon parks online tour on youtube and when I saw the Dinosaurs I couldn't figure out what the hell was going on. Most members aren't even aware of this stuff. If the church ...

Re: How essential is a literal Adam and Eve story to Mormonism?
....however much establishing it is like nailing Jell-o to a wall, isn't the same as what Mormons believe. Officially, Adam and Eve exist, and we even have Jeffrey Arrrrr Holland recently saying that they must or the atonement is nonsense. A lot of believing Mormons don't accept that, but they ...

Re: How essential is a literal Adam and Eve story to Mormonism?
The chance that Adam and Eve are historical figures: 0%. If your religion is based on them being actual people in history, it's toast. It often looks like the LDS church is being slowly yanked, kicking and screaming, to become more in line with the Community of Christ. I'm curious how members of ...

Re: How essential is a literal Adam and Eve story to Mormonism?
I agree with what Hagoth and Thoughtful said. Without literal Adam and Eve and the Fall, there is no need for the Atonement to overcome "physical and spiritual" death. ....but original sin is still a requisite for needing a savior. I’m not so sure about this. It all depends on how much of the s ...

That uncomfortable moment that all Mormons hate: Curious person: "So where are the plates now?" Mormon: (gulp) "The angel took them back to heaven." Curious person: (raises eyebrows) Mormon: (blushes) ...Long pause... Curious person: "So, do you think it will rain?" This. When its awkward for a ...

Re: Whats your favorite mormon koan?
As the Community of Christ is now, we may become. I love this one, and I think its actually quite effective. I talk to one of my more nuanced TBM friends fairly often about the direction the church is going, what changes will be made and when. Last time we talked I finally just said you want to ...
