Re: Taking indefensible position?
I’ll just say this: in marriage (or really any relationship) it’s your job to meet your own needs. It’s not your job to meet her needs. It’s your job to meet your own needs. In a marriage, many of your needs are met by the same way. For example, food is a need. Say only one of you earns income, and b ...

Re: The Direct Approach, to the Lord - KJV & Prayer
One of my biggest issues was desiring a direct connection to God. Not listening to another conference talk, or going to that fireside. I haven’t used the Bible like you’ve described, but really seeking the connection to the Divine. I’ve found that connection. It’s been inside me all along. It’s what ...

Re: Moving Across the Country
How do you plan to support yourself once you get there? What's the job market like in the town? Once you work that out, I'd say go for it. One of my biggest regrets of being raised Mormon is that I missed out on the adventures and growth I could have had in my 20s because I played it "safe" and ...

Re: Moving Across the Country
Thank you for the responses so far! It helps to talk to people who get it, lol. I don’t know for sure what I want to do with my life yet. I’ve been going to college for the past few years, getting a little burnt out from it. I’ve been told so much about what I SHOULD be doing that I’m not sure what m ...

Moving Across the Country
Hello everyone! I haven’t been around as much on here— trying to test out what normal life is like without stressing about the church, what makes it right/wrong/whatever. I’ll try to keep this short. I’ve lived in Utah my whole life, I’ve lived under my true-believing parents roof my whole life. I’m ...

Re: What Does It Mean to be Worthy
Sorry for this late reply. I hope it resonates with you! I think the church’s definition of worthiness isn’t even applicable to real life. TRUE worthiness comes from within. Worthiness is confidence. Worthiness is believing you can do anything you put your mind to— and others opinions won’t stop you. ...

Re: It’s ok if they don’t understand. I have nothing to prove to them.
The highlighted bit is absolutely true, I'm feeling like this right now. I'm seeing a therapist for severe anxiety and we both believe the church has a lot to do with it. He says he sees a lot of people from religions like ours who don't know who they are...I've said this my whole life. I don't ...

Re: It’s ok if they don’t understand. I have nothing to prove to them.
But this karma concept can be used to blame those who suffer as if they deserve it. Don’t like that I don’t like that either. Blame doesn’t feel good, does it? I think of karma in a different way, actually pretty similar to how you said that we choose what we want to learn. The way I was taught abou ...

Re: Birds and the bees
I’m a person who, as a mormon child/teen, has never officially had “the talk” other then “don’t do anything wrong before marriage.” So feel free to take my opinions on this with a grain of salt ;) I would say, first of all, be direct. Not too wordy, but not too vague. Kids often don’t feel awkward he ...

Re: It’s ok if they don’t understand. I have nothing to prove to them.
Perhaps it is not a test - it is all an educational experience. (Can we become educated without being tested?) I have come to really like the idea of reincarnation - the Saṃsāra doctrine of cyclic existence. This gets rid of heaven and hell, allows everyone to experience all of the different lives o ...

Re: Tips for a stalemate with TBM in-laws
Yes, make sure you communicate with the kids why you’re leaving early if you decide to. Is it appropriate to offer to give theFHE lesson sometime? This would show them you want to be involved at least. How do you think they would react if you offered to teach a nice family oriented lesson in the f ...

Re: It’s ok if they don’t understand. I have nothing to prove to them.
Yes! I did my best to raise my kids with the mindset that we simply “don’t do” certain things, rather than “not being allowed” to do them. I always felt that “I’m not allowed” really meant “I would if I could”, and I didn’t want them to feel that doing the right thing was imposed on them. They have ...

Re: It’s ok if they don’t understand. I have nothing to prove to them.
Hopebeat - that was absolutely beautiful. Here is a question - if you were a G-d, and were trying to raise up other G-ds, what technique would you use? Is it a test of how well you can follow orders or a test of how well you can think for yourself? G-d is within all of us - to be found from looking ...

This is great, thanks for sharing! The only thing I would adjust is turning some periods into exclamation points. This is a battle cry, our battle cry! We could down grade it into a mantra but where is the fun in that? I hope this does motivate! You are correct, we need to find our own worth ...

Re: Off-day thoughts on forgiveness
Growing up, it always felt odd to have to say I’m sorry the very second I did something wrong. It felt wrong to dismiss my hurt feelings just because the person that did me wrong gave me a half-hearted apology. Forgiveness needs to happen when you’re ready. And now I’m convinced that forgiveness, it’ ...

It’s ok if they don’t understand. I have nothing to prove to them.
Hello! This is my rant/confession to anyone who needs to hear this. It’s ok if they don’t understand. I have nothing to prove to them. It’s not ok for me to give my own power away. I’m done going to church and worshiping God in a way that doesn’t resonate with me. I’m done with the lies that say you ...

“Find a Husband” Rant
Hello friends, Kind of just wanted to vent a little bit for this post. So I’m in my early 20’s and single, living just north of SLC. I was at a mission farewell with my family and my mom turns to me and says, “this is the place to find a husband, *wink**wink*” In my head I’m like, no no no no no, mam ...

If it makes you feel any better my girls camp experiences made me feel closer to the girls I was with more than anything else. Our spiritual lessons generally involved reading scriptures in the forest and we were instructed to listen to the spirit in the forest. Another girls camp I went to was MTC ...
