Re: Daughter on records of church never baptized
I did some searching and found this on the church site: “However, the ward in which the person lives retains the membership record until the person is 18. At that time, if the person chooses not to be baptized despite being given every opportunity, the bishop, with permission from the stake p ...

Daughter on records of church never baptized
My daughter is an adult now. We never baptized her but did bless her as an infant. Church bothered her/us when she turned 9 to get that easy baptism number, but otherwise I have never heard from them about her. I am still a member on record. I saw the relief society newsletter, and it had her ...

Re: Garments always hanging out and it drives me nuts
Late to this thread, but I agree that garments are awful, and I spent the last few years before ditching them tucking them up and pulling the legs higher. However, women's clothing can be very tricky to find anything that is "modest" enough to cover them unless you go for long sleeves and long ...

Advice on parenting college-age student and drinking
My oldest lives at home and is in his 2nd year at college. He is underage, and he wants to go to parties and drink. He said he wanted to stay overnight at a friend's place because he wants to drink and not worry about driving home. I was not okay with that, and told him why. After relenting, he said ...

Re: Resignation Poll
I would like to resign, but spouse and I haven't because it would make family sad. This may be very petty too, but I don't want to give any Mormon the satisfaction of redoing my temple work after I die.

Re: Amateur Poetry Thread. Add yours
I haven't written poetry since high school, and I remember why. The Internet opened my eyes letting my brain process truth others were stuck in darkness Waiting began. Regret and anger came next questioning every choice I made Was I always such a fool? Waiting still for years. Others saw what I saw ...

Re: Renlund story makes me mad
I totally understand not liking Renlund, but I think this was a good example of being easy on people. I am not sure if you mean that Renlund did a good job being easy on the branch president in the story? If so, I am sure in his mind he was the nicest and most accommodating. However, I have known ...

Re: Under the Banner of Heaven TV show
I will wait to watch the show after all episodes are released. I read a lot of ex mormon feedback and Jim Bennett's twitter thread about the first two episodes. I was disappointed to read that people said the dialogue and cultural aspects were jarring. However, someone pointed out that there are ...

jfro--I watched the one you posted from the church leader meeting with Nelson and Ballard and the guy talking about research on LGBTQ groups. What meeting is that from? Curious--thanks!

Re: Mormon fight songs
I attended a family baptism in the summer with my daughter. She has not attended or studied the church aside from me telling her things for 9 years. We sang "Come, Come Ye Saints," and she turned and looked at me with wide eyes when this part of the 3rd verse came up: And should we die before our ...

Re: Stupid coffee making question
Ha ha! I do agree that being raised Mormon made the coffee smell a zillion times stronger to him. But, I also had no idea about French press and Aero Press options, so I think I may try those. Thanks for the suggestion! There is a whole world to coffee making I need to explore now.

Stupid coffee making question
My older kids and I like coffee, but I have never bought a coffee maker for my house because my husband can't stand it or the smell. We are all out of the church, so he's not morally opposed to it. However, I am interested in getting a coffee maker now. Are there any work arounds anyone can think of ...

Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?
My two oldest kids and I got our 2nd dose yesterday. Sore arm and tired, but very relieved to be vaccinated. Husband gets his 2nd dose today. Then we just have our 13 year old later this year. I am grateful that we can be vaccinated. I hope the countries really struggling with Covid-19 can get doses ...

Re: Overview project I've been working on going through church topics one by one...
Not to give you more stuff to do because I know you've worked hard on this--but the Mountain Meadow Massacre is a big thing in church history. I had visited the site when I was a TBM and knew some about Juanita Brooks' history and her work causing her to be shunned and not being allowed to hold a ...

Re: Netflix doco - Murder amoung the Mormons
Thanks, I didn't want to go back and watch the episode. Also, the Brent Metcalfe thing I referenced above was wrong--the book was by Joseph's cousin Elias Smith according to John Dehlin on reddit. Here is a link with more info. http://www.mormonstudiespodcast.org/joseph-smith-elias-smith-and-wilford ...

Re: Netflix doco - Murder amoung the Mormons
This is just what I saw on Reddit, so not sure it's accurate, but the comment said it was a book by Joseph Smith's uncle Elias Smith that had parallels to the Joseph Smith origin story. I watched the first 2 episodes, but fell asleep in ep. 3. Did he give a reason for the bomb in the car that ...

Re: Frustrated/ambivalent about parent relationship
Thanks everyone. I talked to someone IRL about this who is out like I am, and I feel better. I think I don't really want to salvage anything here, but I won't sever it completely. But, I really related to Hagoth's post because I too am tired of having to be the sane, decent person in scenarios like ...

Frustrated/ambivalent about parent relationship
This is just a vent post. My relationship with my parents since I announced to them I don't believe (8 plus years) has been not great. We are cordial at the best of times, but very distant. They are very TBM. My dad has kind of stopped trying to have anything to do with me, and I guess I kind of ...

Re: Temple Initiatory: Men vs. Women.
I am female, and I did the initiatory in 2000. The whole temple experience that day was not good for me. When I walked down the hall and saw people in full on temple garb coming from a session, I had an instinct that they looked like they were in a cult and I wanted to leave and not go through with ...
