Joseph Smith Forgetting the BofM???
Thought I would pose this thought to NOM since there are some pretty smart folks here, and people who enjoy actually reading primary source material themselves, which I do not enjoy doing  It seems to me that Joseph Smith didn't teach much from the Book of Mormon after it was published. He ...

Relevance of Proclamation on the Family
I heard or read somewhere that a study was conducted at BYU and the researchers found that only 15% 'ish of families in the LDS church fit the mold of what the "ideal" family should be (according to the definition in the Proc to the World). Has anyone heard of this study or something similar to it ...

Re: Need help with specific teachings...
I would suggest the tension of whether there is prophecy, seership, and revelation in the modern LDS church. The notion that the brethren have a pipeline to God provides the hierarchy with a powerful grasp on the minds of the membership. They say something --> it's the will of God --> no questions ...

dogbite - is that information available/viewable at all? Thanks everyone for the response. This idea is one that some of TBM family members have clutched onto for maintaining faith in JS.

"Ye do love your money... and adorning of your churches"
http://www.missedinsunday.com/memes/finances/love-of-money/ So I shared this with my TBM father and he defensively let me know that the church does more than any other Christian church in helping the poor. I think he gave me a figure that the church has donated approx. $1.2 billion in the past 30 ...

Re: President Nelson's Message to Kenya
I am appalled at Nelson's message. His premise is bulls**t. Tithing leads people into bankruptcy and starvation. There is no way in hell that tithing will break the cycle of poverty. Where is the data? If tithing really broke the cycle, we would see Brazilian members becoming prosperous. But no ...

Possibility JS didn't practice Polygamy?
http://puremormonism.blogspot.com/2010/06/why-im-abandoning-polygamy.html?m=1 I'm sure you guys have seen this theory out there before. What do you think about it? What's the likelihood that early church history was entirely recast when BY took over? The whole change from the book of commandments to ...

Thank you so much to everyone that replied. And if anyone else would like to chip in, would love to hear what you have to say. Changing jobs isn't much of an option since I'm working through a PhD and what I will do when I graduate will be very specific and a small research world... I really ...

Wish I could provide some helpful advice, but don't have any... All I can say is sorry - can't imagine what it would be like to be in the same ward as family while it's all going down.

Moving - Managing Activity in Church
Would love to get some collective wisdom from the NOMs on this question. Sorry if this has been discussed before - couldn't find any close conversations with a search. And sorry upfront for a post loaded with questions. This has been heavy on my mind for months now and I've finally decided to throw ...

Re: Philosophical Question about Theocracy
Quote by Elder C.S. Lewis: "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be ...

If this is a real thing in the church, I just took 8 steps closer to the door.
Who on God's earth is making the call whether someone is active with feeling or active without feeling?? Where did Jesus say anything about doing this?

Re: Why the Emphasis on New Revelation in GC?
As a first stab at trying to answer this question, it seems church leaders today may be a bit on the defensive about accusations they don't receive revelation anymore. I am interested in hearing your thoughts. Consiglieri – I'm speculating that this may be in your RFM queue... If so, can't wait to h ...

Any folks on here with a law background? It's odd to see a request by the legal department for that information to be taken off. Is there something wrong with the site that gave legal the opportunity to do something? Is it against the law to take numbers reported by an organization and likewise ...

Re: Nuancing the recommend
I've been thinking a lot about this lately. I personally don't get anything out of the temple and have no interest in going to the temple for the foreseeable future. My kids are young right now (all under 4) and the only thing that would draw me back to the temple is if they're active members 15 ...

Re: Mysteries in the Book of Mormon?
Was doing a little study on this today and found that anciently there was a city in Cappadocia called Gazelum. Was thinking since we know Joseph hijacked a couple of names from old maps i.e. Comoros and Moroni, that possibly he had picked up Gazelum from an old Biblical map. The city was near the ...
