Re: Is NOM really "middle way" to any extent anymore?
What’s the point if it still isn’t what it claims to be? No amount of change can compensate for the evidence that Joseph Smith made it all up! It was never true. It will never be true. Doesn't matter if the foundational claims are bogus. The Church still exists, is a money-making entity, and has the ...

Re: Two Churches - I'm finally starting to get it
I agree with your comment about two churches. I have always looked at it as two different basic types of people. 1- Religious- The central word here is control. They like to control and be controlled. Rules and regulations will get you to heaven. Control is needed because you advance in large groups ...

Motab will probably still stick as the name we all know. TabSquare sounds like a reasonable replacement

Re: Inter subjective reality
Yes, he goes into almost all of this. He talks about cognitive dissonance as an ability humans have that we can use to our advantage. He gives the example of our country’s belief in freedom and the opposing belief that all men are created equal. This creates tension and conflict as these opposing v ...

Inter subjective reality
Wow! I just finished ‘Sapiens’ by Yuval Harare. This was a good read. Has anybody else’s read the book? Some key points he made have helped me reframe my understanding of much of the world and specifically my upbringing in the LDS church. He frames things in terms such as objective reality and subje ...

Re: Mormonism vs. impermanence
I recently went to Les Miserables in London. I found myself looking at Javert in an entirely new light. I could feel and understand his pain. I used to be so certain. These lyrics reached out to me and I think are related to the Mormon avoidance of loss and uncertainty. And must I now begin to doubt ...

Re: Access Denied
In a large ward this could be 10-12 visits a week, logistically a ton of work and a huge burden. The work will still involve more companionships, the young women are now assigned as well as the young men. Husbands and wives may be assigned as a team. More closed door interviews of youth possible?

Re: New Ministering Program
I am a little nervous about how this will play out. I hope it works well, however, the quarterly reporting of the program is where the rubber meets the road. The elders quorum presidencies and relief society presidencies are asked to meet with each member and interview them once every three months ...

Re: Access Denied
Overall happy not to have the monthly forced visits. Reading the details however, it looks like all active members are now going to be interviewed about their ‘ministry’ every 3 months. This sounds like a much more rigorous PPI system, where the PPI is reported to church headquarters. Tons of work fo ...

Re: Patrick Mason Talk
Patrick Mason's Mormonism is not what is taught in my ward. I actually like the people in my ward, but I fundamentally disagree with so much. I suspect that many of them would take some offense at what Brother Mason is saying. But I have no faith that this will ever get tested. Patrick Mason will ...

Re: Patrick Mason Talk
It seems to me he is agreeing that the church needs to change what it teaches and reframe it’s outlook to move forward. This was at a Fair Conference from what I understand, and seems to me to be progress. I am just not convinced the church can or will reframe in this way in the near future, ...

The Red Ryder thread on switched off or pushed out lead me to Hermey’s Links, then a RFM transcription of his Talk by ctrringsturnmyfingersngreen. Fun night of reading. It is long and I am new here, but will go ahead and post the talk. I found it interesting, I just don’t see the church moving very f ...

Re: How Mormon can you be for your TBM spouse?
I went through my faith adjustment about five years ago. I shared my feelings with my wife through the process and I just couldn’t see how long term I could keep going to church. She likes the church and it is such a part of her identity that I realize what is “true” means something different for her ...

Thanks for all the replies, sometimes when you are surrounded by the crazy it is hard to tell if you are the normal one. I told my wife that I was going to sit. I will keep /you posted when it happens. It is encouraging to hear about GHB and DTC asking that we not stand.

Standing for the stake president
Over the pulpit we were instructed that we are to now stand as a congregation any time the stake president enters the room. I also received a mild reprimand when I didn’t stand for him in the high council room a while back. I am all for standing to greet somebody or recognize someone with whom you a ...
