Re: Temple attendance, temple recommend, temple, temple temple!
OP here, thank you all for your input. It has allowed for some interesting discussion. I have been thinking about this whole temple recommend thing. Recently, I have been reading the book mentioned in this article: https://religionnews.com/2023/01/18/how-to-stay-mormon-after-a-faith-crisis-if ...

Temple attendance, temple recommend, temple, temple temple!
A couple weeks ago, the bishop called me into the office and asked me about getting a temple recommend.. I’ve been expired for many years. I told him the temple does not work for me, too ritualistic and ceremonial. I have had negative feelings and experiences with it and could not make it work. I s ...

Re: Adult Saturday Night Stake Conference "date"
Did you actually, in fact, promise your wife before you got married that you would attend church and go to the temple? Or did you marry her in the temple and the expectations are that you would do those things because you both were believers? No. I never explicitly promised any of that. At the time ...

Re: Adult Saturday Night Stake Conference "date"
Went to the Sunday Stake Conference this AM today. Wife was happy to have me there sitting by her. The message for the the two hour session...you guessed it, missionary work! We heard from converts, stake presidency and charismatic returned missionary couple, etc. The church is so focused on getting ...

Re: Adult Saturday Night Stake Conference "date"
Two simple rules to follow and remember! I always refused to mix church and “date night”. Let’s call it what it is. Church is church. Date night is date night! Semantics eh? Two things church should never be a part of. 1. Date night 2. Bedroom activities Red Ryder’s Rules #56 and #1, respectively.

Adult Saturday Night Stake Conference "date"
My wife really wanted to pull me into an adult stake conference as part of a date night tonight. She left her leadership meeting early to get me and head to out to dinner. I told her I was reluctant to sit through a 2 hour meeting (My max is 2 hours of church a week and she expects me there at Stake ...

Re: Elder's Quorum Service Coordinator? (Calling offered to me)
Yeah, that's definitely triggering and it's so easy to say yes to callings in our tradition. Glad you did the 180 and set boundaries when you figured out it wasn't the right fit and I'm glad he was cool about. Full support to you! This is so true. I was saying yes to his face while saying no way ...

Re: Elder's Quorum Service Coordinator? (Calling offered to me)
I’m so glad I turned it down. I can only imagine I’m out in the fields trying to farm and getting calls. Plus, being the moving manager where I have philosophical differences with EQ doing it. No way! Again, I look for service and do things for people in my circle. Not going to be a free committee ma ...

Re: Elder's Quorum Service Coordinator? (Calling offered to me)
The guy replied back and let me know that is OK after I turned him down. He was pretty good about it and asked about our farm and forest projects. I gave him some detail and invited him over sometime after I get it more cleaned up. One more turn down for the history books. I assume the bishopric ...

Elder's Quorum Service Coordinator? (Calling offered to me)
All, I am barely hanging on with activity in Mormonism, but attend almost every week and my wife is happy about that. Anyhow, I have been teaching Sunday School youth for the past year and it has been nice. Just got released due to my partner teacher moving. So, I just got a calling offer today (I ...

Re: Regretting the mindset I had for relationships pre-mission
I guess I have to get this stuff out of my head and move on. It is definitely not constant, so not all that bad. It just comes up from time to time if triggered by something. But, glad to hear it is normal. That actually helps. No more gentile women fantasies for me! Ha, ha. Funny about ...

Regretting the mindset I had for relationships pre-mission
Here I am, 45 years old, four kids and my tolerant (to my NOMness) TBM wife. Thank God for this woman! Marriage is good, with ups and downs, but would not have it any other way! She is a wonderful, wonderful, woman and I am very blessed to be with her for 20+ years! We have been cleaning out lately ...

Re: NNN back with more cringe worthy confrontations
I don't think this was the right approach that this guy took. Would I go into a Mosque and speak about how Mohammad was a false prophet? Or walk into a synagogue and tell them they are wrong in not accepting Jesus? This guy has real feelings that need to be processed. But he does not need to ...

Re: Youth fireside ?
We have youth in deep depression, anxiety, suicidal tendencies and social pressures. The best that a prophet tells them is to stay off social media? My message would be: you are deeply, deeply loved by God and precious. God loves you so much just the way you are. You are God's creations and your ...

Re: Conference Report and Analysis
Listened to Rasbands talk. I feel it can be dangerous to simplying annoying to attribute first feelings as the spirit and take action on them. We need to use our intellect before acting on impulses. It makes Mormons come off as acting strangely to outsiders. So strange.
