Momentum?
When I was a young man (1970s) my Pop would tell me the the Church was bound to become the "Third great world religion" (after Christianity & Islam). Oops. He was vividly wrong. My question, as a retiring HS instructor who saw the end of " I'm going on a mission! " (kids no longer take pride in ...

Parents understand that having a child made a "child of record" makes a lifetime commitment for the child.
I advice my kids to not make them a child of record unless they are comfortable with making a lifetime commitment for them.

Andrew Walker, Public Affairs Vice President Pac-12, awalker@pac-12.org. Dear Sir, Pardon the interruption but I cannot find a contact email other than in the media group. Please pass this along to the appropriate person/persons. I am sure that the Conference is aware of Brigham Young University's ...

Re: SaveBYU - was I a religious Nazi when I was there too?
The removal of wording in the Honor Code is easy to understand:
World: "Why ya'll so hard on gays and stuff?"
Church: "We aren't. Not even a mention of it in the Honor Code....never has been..."

Things to remember about SaveBYU.
Limited posts (five if you're generous). Most recent May last year.
The thing is dead. Poking it could wake it up. Let the dead sleep.

I'm impressed that SquareSpace caught this so quickly and removed it. There's an archived copy of the page somewhere but the fact the link is broken and the content gone buoys my heart.

Re: BYU announces honor code changes
The new handbook puts a great deal of weight on Bishops for "Membership Councils" and this Honor Code business seems to say "We'll take it care of it case by case" meaning that if you're careful and discreet you're going to be OK. My reasoning is that although being in a same sex marriage is ...

Re: Cremation v.s. Burial
I'm always struck by LDS who offer "How will God reconstruct your body if it's been destroyed? You need to be buried so God can rebuild you." Uhhhh...what if I'm eaten by a shark or atomized by a nuclear weapon? Sometimes Latter-day Saints don't get how powerless they make God through their own ...

Re: Rumors of the Handbook Changes Generally True
There's a confusing nuance to a lot of this and it's because of people in the church who still hold to Gay stereotypes. Personally I believe that the new Handbook is clearly trying to find a way to be inclusive and play both sides of the fence. Good news is that with "Membership Councils ...

Maybe I will do a live thread here in NOM to cover this ...
