Re: Evolution of Apologetics
"I say most emphatically, you cannot believe in this theory of the origin of man, and at the same time accept the plan of salvation as set forth by the Lord our God. You must choose the one and reject the other, for they are in direct conflict and there is a gulf separating them which is so great ...

Re: Hello
Belated welcome. Enjoyed reading your back-story, and can very much relate! I've been a non-believer since 2008. The first 2 years were very difficult as I too was a fence sitter - not believing but still going to Church for the sake of the family. Trying to maintain that position is not fun and ...

I'm sorry. It had to have been hard; like sitting in front of the Pharisees, a bunch of ignorant nobodies holding you in judgment for daring to think for yourself.

Whether you consider Trump a racist or not, he's definitely made the white supremacists feel empowered enough to speak out. It's scary.

Alright, Korihor. You want to get drunk, and fast? Take some Jameson Irish Whiskey, fill a shot glass about 70% of the way full with it. Then take a Guinness Beer, and poor into a pint glass about 60% of the way full. Then take some Bailey's Irish Cream and top off the shot glass with it. *Quickly ...

I rotate between favorite songs on my phone as an alarm instead of a jarring tone. Much more pleasant way to wake up. If even that causes you anxiety, so sorry. That sucks.

Re: I can actually enjoy simple things
Had my first cup of coffee ever this morning. I wasn't expecting it to taste good, especially since it was McDonald's. It was more a need to say "I can do this without feeling guilt." Sitting in my car, feeling it in my hands, just letting the weight off. The feeling was what I once would have ...

I can actually enjoy simple things
Kind of amazing to be free of unnecessary guilt for simple things like movies with a couple sex scenes or f-bombs, NFL Sundays, and asking questions about history.

In "year of polygamy" I think it was Lindsay Hansen Park who was using the analogy of the FLDS building a wall around the leader compound. All that would be needed to stop all the nonsense is for the laborers to put down the bricks that keep building the wall. Eventually we have to put down our own ...

Re: Stake TR interview today
My approach has been to let it expire and never renew. My calling in the stake technically requires a recommend. No one has fired me yet after 3 or 4 years of no recommend. I also have baptised and confirmed my kid, also sans recommend. Very strange. That is super weird (at least where I live ...

Things I've noticed: TBM: "The church is either God's True and Living Church on the face of the earth, or it is a fraud." ExMo: "It's a fraud." TBM: "But it does so much good in the world. Stay in the boat!" TBM: "Don't be ashamed of the truth. Open your mouth." ExMo: "The church isn't true." TBM ...

Re: Another shot at Runnels CES letter
I read the first 20 or so pages tonight. I hadn't heard about any of the books Smith plagiarized until just now. I thought I was done with all this before, now I'm getting incredibly angry at what Smith did and what he must have thought of his followers. I feel like such a dupe.

Re: Called to Teach Gospel Doctrine
It could be the hardest thing you've ever done. I was asked to teach the 15-16 year-olds, and when I ran out of pap-filled videos to show them, I resigned. I just knew that I couldn't fake it. I claimed depression & social anxiety for the release, which was technically accurate. For the last year ...

I agree. I had resigned myself to keeping my head down and keeping quiet, but I can't do it anymore. I don't have to be outspoken; asking honest, simple questions to teachers & leaders is like dropping a grenade.

Welcome I saw you posted a bunch on the board before reading your intro. You have taken to this site like a fish in water. It's great to have you here. Sorry about the traumatic family history stuff. But at least it's nice to hear your son is in a safe environment with you. If you're willing to ...

I almost wish that I had renewed mine, just to to have that experience of knowing that there was no discernment. It would have been fun. Instead I took the gratifying experience of giving it back, and telling him I thought it was all a bunch of made up hooey. The look of confusion was pretty great ...

Re: New business acquisitions by LDS Church
All of this business acquiring leads me to assume that, as the church owns and operates more and more for-profit businesses, that the emphasis on promoting General Authorities will lean even more heavily toward lawyers and businessmen. What are the implications for the future of common members in ...
