Re: Church fraud investigation
I certainly hope the Australian government won't just look the other way, like the US government seems to do when religions are involved. It seems like a church here just makes a statement, threatens lawsuits, and MAYBE pays a fine, and then it's business as usual. In the current US political ...

Re: End game - the great rebrand
MY POV: I think it will be a continuation of trying to align the LDS Church more and more with and appease conservative American Evangelicals. It will continue to have a fundamentalist view of scriptures. While it will maintain the temple and the essentiality of a living prophet, the idea of ...

End game - the great rebrand
Mormonism has undergone some pretty massive leaps in branding both internally and externally. The last great one was under GBH where the walls built around leadership were torn down and he employed the Jewish PR firm to rebrand and start the mainstreaming of LDS INC. This was after a period of ...

They are in a difficult position as any official ATO investigation would be retrospective.

Re: Dodgy Australian tax dealings by the Church
It seems clear to me that the Church has skirted the spirit of the Australian and Canadian tax laws. However, I suspect the Church can escape any penalty via strategically placed donations to the proper Authorities. This action would likely fall within the rubric of the Lying for the Lord Doctrine ...

Re: Dodgy Australian tax dealings by the Church
The church is run by businessmen who are very aggressive in their interpretations of law. Who can forget that Russell Ballard led a company that lied to the SEC and was punished. These are the same practices they bring to church administration. How common are investigations into churches in ...

Re: Dodgy Australian tax dealings by the Church
This is exactly the sneeky, sleepy stuff the church does to avoid paying taxes. I bet all of the tithing slips in Australia still say they are paying tithing rather donating to a charity. The church just sets up a shell corporation as a charity and then funnels all of the tithing to that….then the m ...

Dodgy Australian tax dealings by the Church
The Church is under scrutiny for dodgy tax practises that enabled members to claim tithing back as a tax deduction. The opposition parties have called for the ATO to investigate. It is an election year and this could interesting. https://www.theage.com.au/national/mormons-inc-church-accused-of ...

Re: Current policy, maybe doctrine, about women being sealed to more than one man
That's a surprise to me. My understanding was that a woman can only be sealed to one man, period. I knew a couple who were planning to get married. She went to the temple for her endowment and also had her dead husband's work done. They said, "hey while you're here you might as well get sealed to ...

Re: Updated list of Humble Braggage
I think it was Rasband who declared that he was one of the "weak and foolish" called to serve God. Of course he had a 7 figure salary before being a GA. Elder Rasband does not actually consider himself either work or foolish, he is as full of himself as they come. He was being pretty disingenuous ...

Church assets transferred to GA families
A while ago, someone posted information regarding Church assets that has been transferred into their wives or childrens names. One example I can remember is the land on which the eagle gate or gateway apartments sits was in the name of Marjorie Hinckley. Does anyone have the details or links to this ...

Re: Battleground Africa
Looks like the Church is way behind the rest of the pack. I wonder why? 685 million Christians in Africa at the moment and the Church claims only 318,000.
The Church with its American flavour, predominantly white leadership and MO is not an appealing product.

@red Ryder
Keep in mind the Pacific Area Office and MTC is in New Zealand so the operating costs associated with those would need to come out of the local budget.
