To Women Only
No, it's not the title of a new manual by Elder Packer. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5bisd7 This story made national NBC news this morning if you haven't seen it yet. The background: A catholic school basketball team in New Jersey made the playoffs with a coed team. The choice the boys were ...

Re: The Ridiculous Future
Self-driving cars sounds ridiculous to me. They don't seem safer or more convenient. But I saw last year (an article bouncing around on Facebook) the idea that kids born today may never have to manually drive.

Re: Returning back?
I wouldn't try to go back solo. You might have blamed it on your shame or just feeling out of place, but it's not a coincidence everyone that tries eventually feels the same way. Most people immediately, even investigators. The Church does not want people to be attending family wards without their ...

However, all of the apologists at FairMormon are confident that their extensive research (internet and otherwise) leads to a solid conclusion of the divine truth of Mormonism. Apologists don't easily accept "Chapel Mormon vs. Internet Mormon". I feel like the apologists main job is to be the filter ...

Re: Do Utah alcohol laws put it below the average?
What are the devastating societal costs of binge drinking? Whatever Mr. Hawkins wants to make up . He does work for the Corporation of the President™. Agreed. I loved the way he just kind of, you know, casually sneaks that one in there at the end. This is a newspaper- but hopefully no one will n ...

Re: There is a lot of pain here
I first signed up for NOM in August 2015 on the old board. Shortly thereafter, I went NOM-inactive and stopped showing up as much. With the new board now, I seem to recognize that there has been somewhat of a shift in the tone of what I read. I'm sensing that there are a lot of people here in pain ...

Re: Creation conundrum
Just for fun, let's assume it's proven that God did create everything. What would be the next piece of the puzzle we can move on to? Every conclusion anyone would want to draw from that is a non sequitur. It doesn't prove anything except that there is a "God" and that he did create the universe ...

There should be a webpage that keeps a tally of all the Church's growing assets.
This is the first I've heard of the 371 apartment complex in a Dallas suburb for $45 million last year.

After the meeting was over, I just wanted to run and hide. I felt that everyone was mad at me for some reason for bringing up a taboo topic. I just wanted to crawl under the pew and hide from everyone. I was very happy to see that two people in the congregation came over to me to specifically thank ...

Re: GA Stipend is modest compared to executive compensation
I had a thought today that really got me flustered and upset. So, clergy are considered self-employed when it comes to SS tax, meaning they pay the full 12.4%. As I mentioned before, most churches take off as much as they can justify through "living expenses". Again, in the case of my priest, we ...

Off-topic, but dIdn't there used to be a rule against missionaries helping move? Wasn't it in the Missionary Handbook, or at least maybe it was a long time ago. That's really a great question- how Elder Tingey is even be able to connect the donation to the suggestion, unless it is quid pro quo. The ...

Good thread. Just another example, when we talk about the atonement at Conference or our meetings, the Savior suffered for: our- Shortcomings Imperfections Frailties their- Sins Wickedness Evil Depravity Worldliness There's a pretty split dualistic nature in how we view ourselves and others. We ...

And I command mine handmaid, Emma Smith, to abide and cleave unto my servant Joseph, and to none else. But if she will not abide this commandment she shall be destroyed, saith the Lord; for I am the Lord thy God, and will destroy her if she abide not in my law. I heard a story behind this reprimand ...

That's a really interesting link. Not because of the article, but It's an eye-opening look at how those who believe in the church and those who don't approach a golden opportunity to openly communicate differences in perspective. The author is trying to create an estuary for faithful and questioning ...

Re: The Church needs a transcendent moment
Nice thread. The Church seemed a lot more warm and inviting when it was still trying to save every single person- like shepherds going after the one lost. I've noticed a tone shift that's more defensive and xenophobic. We've always had lessons on the differences between being Mormon and non-Mormon ...

Re: The scriptures hold the answers to MOST of life's problems.
Not usually, but sometimes I found some verses here or there inspiring, especially when the context was immediately relevant. Almost never as far as sitting down and reading for answers went, so it's fair to question if it was really worth what was probably thousands of hours spent over a few ...
