Re: Uchtdorf is out, Oaks is in...
Well, technically Uchtdorf was replaced by Eyring. Eyring was the 1st counselor and he is now the 2nd (Uchtdorf's old place). Eyring got a demotion too.

Re: Your assignment is to create an account on LDS.org
You can modify your own pictures after they are put on the directory. A few years ago I changed all of my family to mugshots of the Avengers. It stayed for a few until my wife found it and at least changed her picture back. I did get a few ward members tell me it was great. This is a profound ...

Re: Your assignment is to create an account on LDS.org
The bishop was taking people's pictures at tithing settlement for the ward directory. I refused. If I wanted my picture on the directory I would do so. And I'm definitely not uploading my mugshot taken in the church hall. You can modify your own pictures after they are put on the directory. A few ...

Re: The sacred work of abortion
This really isn't complicated. If you want to make abortion illegal then what is the punishment for having one? Are we proposing to to treat abortion as murder (because it's "killing a child"). If so do you propose long prison sentences or the death penalty for an abortion? Yes abortion is a ...

Don't you all already pray that the spirit be with you before you engage in martial relations? No? Bunch of apostates all of you! I'm not an apostate - we always start off by say our prayer "For what we are about to receive, let us be truly thankful!" ;) Better to give than to receive? I ...

Re: Reasons for disaffection: two perspecives
The offended "rationale" is one that always gets my goat. Aren't we supposed to let the Holy Ghost teach us in all things? Aren't we also taught to be careful because the Holy Ghost is "easily offended?" Good for the Goose, Good for the Gander.

Re: Personal church attendance record.
I have not attended my local ward for 4 consecutive Sundays. I'll make a special offer for you, Brother Korihor. As I enter my ward building on Sunday I will repeat in my mind the words "I, Corsair, do attend church for and in behalf of Korihor who is spiritually dead, and possibly inebriated ...

I didn't know Joseph Smith "found" treasure with the seer stone (as they imply) I thought he failed to find treasure so he only tried (Yoda notwithstanding).

Re: Church's Communistic Structure Stifles Innovation
The difference in the case of Mormonism, is that the brand loyalty is to the institutional church and not to any given ward. That is very true. I guess the exception proves the rule. During this past year we moved from a suburban non-morcor (still in the west so quite a few mormons in town) ward to ...

Re: ExMo logo - WARNING - Temple Info
I wouldn't stick it on my car because 1) the only people who knew what it is in my life would be offended/hurt by it 2) I would rather define myself but what I do believe in than what I don't. So were I not of the belief that my car should be as anonymous as possible and instead serve as a way of ...

Re: Explain your avatar choice
Luther Heggs was terrified, but still found the courage to shine a light in the dark and uncover the truth in spite of his fear. Plus it's a hilarious movie. And some of us can't get the Mormon out, "not even with Bon Ami."

Re: Greetings from Awake!
Awake - I never deleted you - I think we just did our communications on NOM, via email or on The SpringersNOM private FB group. I'm just glad you are ok. I'm old enough to have lost too many friends to that beast. Easier for me to help out with a BBQ or do a lunch now that I live downtown full-time ...

Re: Hi! I'm back (or rather NOM is?)
Hi RR, Thanks for the returning welcome nice, to hear from you again (always enjoyed your insights). I wish I had some magic to share regarding my DW taking off the g's, but it was sudden and unexpected. I had given up mine years ago (just keeping a few sets for when I needed to visit the fam in the ...

Hi! I'm back (or rather NOM is?)
So glad to see NOM back and hear from some old friends and new ones. I started my faith transition more than 7 years ago and am now an agnostic atheist undercover Mormon. I stay on the rolls for my family, but will hopefully be fully out after my parents (90s) pass. My DW still attends, but in the ...

Re: Greetings from Awake!
Sorry you had to fight the demon cancer. So glad you are doing better (love the curls). I (like everybody) got surprised by the death of NOM, but am glad it's successor is now around if for no other reason than to catch up. Be well and best to J. and the fam.
