Re: I'm Leaving Soon
Thank you all for the kind words. Arcturus - I'm not sure reporting the aftermath of my resignation would be that helpful here because I've been out mentally/emotionally/spiritually so long and because pretty much everyone in my fam and ward already knows. At this point it's a matter of conscience ...

I'm Leaving Soon
Too much hate lately from the institution formerly known as the Mormon Church, for me to remain on their records as a member. I'm going to resign, but I have to work out the details of when and the implications of this with my wife, so it will still take some time. Once I resign from the LDS Church ...

Re: Part of Why I'm Out and Why I Still Apologize
Rubin H - Way to be there for your daughter! Maybe it wasn't perfect, at first, but you're there bro. That's priceless. WTFluff - "Does posting semi-anonymously on internet-message-board-thingy's count [as making up for your Mormonism]?" For what it's worth, you're one of those who have helped me ...

Part of Why I'm Out and Why I Still Apologize
Oaks’s talk really got to me. I know the church isn’t true, it’s all lie and I don’t believe his homophobic bullshit came from god but it’s still hard. It’s hard being a LGBT youth in the church, knowing that your family and friends all support this monster and take what he says as doctrine. ... Mos ...

Re: From Apostate to the HC
I am increasingly skeptical that any real change will come from the inside. Same here, at least in any big way. But, maybe some change for even one individual is enough while Mormorrisey can bear to serve on the HC. One day, an old man was walking along a beach that was littered with thousands of ...

Re: There is no such thing as free will
Glad to see zack back and posting. Thanks bro! I think I'm here because I'm sad and angry from recent revelations of how the Church, formerly known as Mormon, too often treats perps and victims. I feel like something further has broken in me as a result of their lack of concern for human dignity. I ...

Re: There is no such thing as free will
Note: this is my last word on Hitch, Harris, or even Dawkins. I'm not here to pick fights. I did not sense, nor feel any fight? Discussion has been good so far, no? You're right, sorry for implying that it would go that way. You've all been very gracious. Sent from my HTC U11 life using Tapatalk ...

Re: There is no such thing as free will
Sam gave an example that struck me. He asked, "think of a city". In my mind there is a bit of a pause then about 4 cities come to mind and I pick one. Munich was the one out of the list that came to mind. I consciously picked Munich for the second, uncontrolled thought that came to mind ...

Re: There is no such thing as free will
Yeah, not a huge fan of The Hitch. I just don't think that believing that religion is a sham (which I do) naturally leads to a basis to uniquely discriminate against members of religions, and especially not one religion over others. I'm not a Hitch expert, and the little I've watched and read I've ...

Re: There is no such thing as free will
I love this topic. I didn't watch this particular vid, but I've listened to and watched enough Sam Harris to have a good idea of his take on this. (That being said, please correct me if any of my assumptions about Sam's position in this vid are wrong.) I don't think Sam's point has anything to do ...

Re: I am now in a live and let live phase of my journey. Where are you?
I want to show everything to my kids and get them the hell out. I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but be patient. Over the years I hardly said a snide remark about the Church to my kids. Each and every one is out now. Love them and dedicate your life to their wellbeing. I think they'll most ...

Re: I am now in a live and let live phase of my journey. Where are you?
I am now in a live and let live phase of my journey. Where are you? They still hold my wife hostage. They accepted tens of thousands of my hard-earned, much-needed dollars, all based on false pretenses. They create a cult ure of shame that harms so many people, including my queer child. I just ...

Meilingkie, You continue to amaze me with how fully you seem to live life. It has its downs, and I sorrow with you over what you've told us of the downs. But, your ups seem amazing too. Thank you so much for sharing so much of your life with us. I think accounts like yours have gone a long way ...

Re: Impractical, uncomfortable, and unsightly
Wow! I just read the first couple of pages, and you really can see that little has changed in the last 84 years. The good 'ol boys of the Q15 club just don't seem to get it. It's as if they've created a culture that isolates them from honest feedback.

Re: I'm no prophet but . . . An anecdote for hope
This sounds like my life. I have only one child with any reliable testimony of the LDS church. All four of them love each other and treat each other well. The church is spoken about rarely, but kindly. Sounds like you've probably set a good example of respect for people regardless of the baloney ...

Re: I'm no prophet but . . . An anecdote for hope
They are taught that their eternal prospects are dependent on others believing as they do. I really wish for a religious environment where people are This! I'm sure my wife would say that she operates in relationship to her family based on her faith in Christ. I think the evidence is overwhelming ...

I'm no prophet but . . . An anecdote for hope
I have taken a stand to withdraw my support from the Church as an example to my family. Not long ago my oldest child told me of her disaffection from the Church. I knew they didn’t accept the Church’s stand on many issues and was heading in the direction of leaving it, but I was shocked when they to ...

Re: Purpose of religion
Lot's of good purposes discussed. Before I give my thought, let me preface it with an explanation of my religious perspective. I think all religion is man-made. I do not believe in God, gods, anything supernatural, or an afterlife. That being said, I think religion still does one thing marvelously ...
