Re: Teacher Council - Should Have Skipped...
I attended one or two of those in the last year (skipped the rest), and they were awful in my ward. Someone would always start weeping and talking about the importance of teaching, and how so many youth are falling away. They would also call on people randomly to answer questions, so there was a ...

Re: Church Going Mainstream
I feel that just as big of a problem that the church isn't true, is the problem of what the Church actually is. It is not an uplifting organization. It does not inspire members to be better, or help members with challenging life problems, or help children grow into independent adults, or bring the ...

Re: Looks like I'll be doing my "Home Study" after all...
I agree with many of the posters on this board. I am also looking for some outside resources, that would be helpful lesson topics and teaching ideas for the family. There have been some great ideas on this board, but it would require quite a bit of work to find my own books and new topics to teach ...

Re: What Sunday School class am I in?
nibbler is right, it is a class meant for people currently holding teaching callings. My ward only has it once or twice a month. BTW it has been an emotional cry fest for some of the more devoted teachers each of the two times I have gone.

Re: New EQ/HPG
Well, I've honestly only been maybe 3 or 4 times this year. Yet somehow they still called me to be one of the new teachers :o They must be really desperate  I accepted recently, because this sounds like a pretty mild calling. I only have to teach once a month, and I don't really teach just ...

Re: Church removes online donation options for 2 funds
I agree, it doesn't add up. Sounds to me like they are beginning to phase those two things out for whatever reason. I mean I haven't heard that the perpetual education fund is a success in any way, so I wouldn't be surprised if they try to bury that failure quietly.

Re: Mom is in the hospital today
I want to echo that it is not your fault, that depression and/or chemical imbalances are challenges that only one can overcome. I think this is what makes it so difficult for parents, siblings, and friends. Even the best, most loving, and most caring friend in the world cannot force someone out of ...

Re: Just received 'Correlation Research Department Survey'
I still haven't seen a gift card, nor any zucchini cookies. You must of answered all of the questions correctly. I am however being pestered by someone in the new Elder's quorum presidency about a quick meeting. I assumed it was for a calling I will need to turn down, but maybe the church passed ...

Re: Dilemma: Helping the Poor and Conservatism
Considering that the donations that support the church welfare system have come from generous, open-handed members, it seems right for the benefits to be generously offered to those who have need. Being conservative with welfare benefits seems rather hypocritical and self-serving of this very ...

Re: Just received 'Correlation Research Department Survey'
I did feel that I had to put LDS on that question to avoid outing myself, but I was surprised to see it since I had assumed this only went out to members. However, if they look at my other responses they may start to question my loyalty. So far I haven't been called into the Bishops office for a ...

Re: New Correlation Department Survey
I received the same survey. I posted about it in the Support board. I also wanted to give my honest opinion to the church about how things are, but then I found most of the questions weren't about the LDS church just religion in general.

Re: Just received 'Correlation Research Department Survey'
That's a good question. I haven't received any gift chard yet, so no idea what they are offering. However, at the end of the survey there was a question asking about doing more surveys for money/gift cards. Something about how the Correlation Research Department is always looking for people to take ...

Re: Just received 'Correlation Research Department Survey'
Well I took the survey, I do like amazon gift cards so fingers crossed. The survey was more about ones feelings on religion and spirituality, than on how much work one has to put into the Church like I thought it would be. Lots of questions to gauge wither or not one prefers religion over ...

Just received 'Correlation Research Department Survey'
Anyone else get this email about a survey and the promise of an Amazon gift card? Looks like corporate wants to know members attitudes towards religious participation. In my opinion there should be much less work put on the members, far too much busywork just to make sure everyone knows how much ...

Re: Apostle Photo Op with Family of Shooting Victim
Right now good or bad lots of organizations are getting air time with these kids. As long as these people are there for support of the victims, their families, and their community then I think there support is warmly welcomed. But do I think the church sent this apostle down there just for PR ...

Re: State of the Union and Mormon Connection
I find it interesting how black and white politics has become in the US. I personally am kind of ambivalent towards Trump. I am not a huge fan of him personally but I think he's done some things right too. I find so few who are like minded about him. I have relatives and co-workers on both sides of ...

Re: Why do Mormons give Trump the highest approval rating?
I honestly don't believe there are many Mormons who are racist. Of those who are, it's probably in the noise in these polls which likely aren't great to begin with. I'm sure whoever did the poll started with a specifically desired outcome, and structured everything to make that outcome more likely ...

Re: Polygamy Essay
That is going to be one awkward lesson. All lds women I know get really uncomfortable and defensive whenever polygamy is brought up. If spiritual wifery is brought up to defend Smith's antics, you can always ask why D&C 132 doesn't talk about that. You know the supposed "revelation" detailing how ...
