Re: I want to leave this Mormon bubble and travel the world. Would love some advice and support
My DD lasted 8 months in the Peace Corps. She came home early after being physically assaulted 3 separate times by the men in her small African village. The PC is not a safe way to go for young women. Once trained you will live alone in your assigned areas. She loved doing the service, but was quite ...

Re: Turning in TR
I've done this (giving back a TR) before. In all honesty, it felt GREAT to say (to the SP1C)-- I don't want this. This is basically the reason I'm thinking of doing it. Turned mine in a few years ago. Made an appointment with the SP and said, "I don't need or want this anymore". His immediate ...

Re: Easter and Celebration
....the instructor even mentioned that the cross has always felt kind of taboo growing up, and if he ever saw a person wearing a cross, it was akin to somebody that smoked or drank coffee, you know those "bad" people. I never gave it much thought, but I think he is right, the cross has always been ...

Re: Easter and Celebration
Mormons don’t understand Easter. Since they don’t practice the Christian tradition of special worship throughout Holy Week, they insist upon wrapping up all the significant events of Holy Week into one service. We quit attending LDS Easter SMs a few years ago. We had grown tired of their Easter tal ...

Re: You Can Keep Your Choir
"All are welcome in our choir"....(as long as you are willing to follow our conductor. If not, we may have to ask you to leave. A choir must sing with unity or cannot function as a choir) Perhaps, but life is not meant to be lived under the constant control of a conductor. Wasn't that satan's plan?

Re: Requesting a Visit
They gathered us all into one room. After the polite chit-chat, they brought up the subject of the lapsed temple recommends. There, in front of our children, they pointed out how we weren't measuring up. They then encouraged us to measure up. We were polite. The visit ended. That was the first time ...

"Real or Fake motives"
Today we happened to go to SM...our first time in over a year.. only to find out it was Ward Conference. Ugh! In his concluding remarks the SP told the members they needed to be actively engaged in rescuing lost sheep (less-actives) and bringing them back into the fold. "Whether your motives are ...

Re: What's the deal with BYU Idaho?
I'm not sure, but BYU-I has always seemed much more draconian in the enforcement of their rules than BYU-U. What's sad is students, faculty, and staff really have no recourse if they happen to disagree with BYU-I's heavy-handed methods...other than suck it up, or leave the institution. All who work ...

"Nevermind, just Stay in the Boat"
What ever happened to "leaving the ninety and nine and going out in search of the one"? It no longer seems to apply to the "Ones" who chose to leave after peeking behind the curtain. Once TBMs find out the reason for our leaving is because of doubt, (or new knowledge) suddenly we become too leperous ...

"We are doing church on our own terms" works for us. Some say they wish they could do the same.

Re: The 2030 LDS Bicentennial cometh...
Here are my temple related predictions: 1- All things strange and masonic will have been removed from the temple ritual. (handshakes, signs, tokens, washings and anointings, chantings) 2- White clothing will still be worn in the temple, minus the former temple garb. (caps, aprons, veils, robes, etc ...

The 2030 LDS Bicentennial cometh...
The church’s bicentennial is only 14 years away. What church practicies, policies, and demographics do you hope, expect, or predict will have changed by the time Mormons commemorate their bicentennial?

Hmmm... Some UT polls and talking heads are saying McMullin has moved back into second to Trump in Utah. Might get interesting.

Re: November 5 Policy - How to publicly remember it?
The only thing I have to offer is an anecdotal happening from my own life you might find interesting. My (LDS) DD and her same sex (LDS) partner (not in UT) recently befriended the local elders. They often pop in to just hang out, sometimes for several hours. When we visited our DD and her family ...

This is a very left-wing site, but this article pretty much states what I'm talking about. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/mormons-consciences-have-put-white-evangelicals-to_us_5802d33de4b0985f6d15724c Full disclosure: I voted for Hillary. I liked and agreed with the Huffpost article ...

Re: A Lose-Lose-Lose for the church
Hi Notchet! I am curious though to know if there has been any direct influencing of the vote from the pulpit. Does anyone know? Hi SeeNoEvil...always good to hear from you. The only influencing I have seen or heard of is the traditional letter to members (5 Oct, 2016) encouraging members to vote ...

A Lose-Lose-Lose for the church
It appears that no matter who wins Utah’s electoral votes, the church will look bad to the rest of the world. McMullin: A confirmation of the long held belief that Mormons vote for whomever the church tells them to. I would smile if McM carried 65% percent of the UT vote, which equals the a ...

Hey y’all…’tis great to see NOM up and running again. Here is my updated introduction, as suggested. My LDS background: Multi-generation LDS, BIC, RM, MIT, BYU, HP…yadda, yadda… Once I retired, the church had no more control over my career or livelihood. (employment dependent upon having an ecclesias ...
