Martinsburg WV Sex Abuse Settlement Details Leaked
https://floodlit.org/90-million/ Per this, back when the abuse case when to trial in WV, the church spent a total of $27M in legal fees trying the case and then paid $32M in settlement to the 6 victims. The church then sued several insurance companies who had umbrella policies for LDSinc. when they ...

Re: What words of comfort and wisdom will we receive...
What words of comfort, wisdom, and cheer will be given in these uncertain times at the upcoming general conference? And will the general, I mean president Nelson speak? odds? Shut up and do as I tell you! If you are not happy doing that, it's your fault. I think that will summarize the whole ...

Re: My Country/Church- Right or Wrong! the price of Loyalty.
I understand the logic. Mormonism does respond to pressure from within to change, but it is a VERY SLOW process. The church is setup in such a way to actively limit change. Dissent is frowned upon and leadership is encouraged to tow the party line. Members are actively taught to avoid thinking for ...

Re: Lamanite Story from Siberia
In addition to Siberia, did Jesus ever visit China or India? Did Mormon god forsake 25%+ of the world's population in his hurry to get to the few remaining cities in the America?

I just thought of a LDS Missionary film I wasn't sure about Other Side of Heaven...but I looked it up and it was distributed by Excel Entertainment Group which is a subsidiary of Deseret Book. So that ones out. Im curious if anyone can name any others without LDS ties. One documentary that was ...

Re: What is the most harmful lie the Church has perpetrated?
If you are asking about harmfulness, I would say: "We are the gold standard for protecting children." It is getting to the point that there are more lawsuits against Mormon church leaders for child and/or sex abuse than the Roman Catholic church which has over 70 times as many members. This belief ...

Re: Heretic Movie
It is interesting how TMBs react to Mormonism in the Cinema and how that has evolved. When The Singles Ward came out, it was generally loved by TBMs because it had an overall positive message about Mormonism and the fact that a movie about Mormons got wide release. I recall God's Army also was ...

Re: Are all Church Teachings Malleable?
I can only think of one teaching that is hasn't changed and that is it worship the leadership.
Other than that, Basically every Mormon teaching has changed at some point or other.

Re: Heretic Movie
I have seen one Mormon reviewer claim it is full of anti-Mormon and anti-Christen materiel and had a predictable negative rating. I was tempted to ask exactly what parts of the movie were not accurate about Mormon theology and if he could cite any sources for it, but I don't know if I have the brain ...

Re: Beards, etc.
When my FIL was bishop, he was repeatedly suggested to shave his mustache, but he always refused. That was his old hippie self protesting "the Man" in his modern way. Still has it even today.

Re: Evangelicals
I know of evangelical churches that people in DW's family go to that are very much the stereotypical evangelical. There are anti-abortion sermons, anti-intellectual* sermons, Pro "tradtional USA" stuff etc. They even get into the evangelical ultra conservative women's clothing stuff. Then I know ...

Re: BoM "in a different realm"
The main presenter mentioned that, unlike most people, he doesn't need any evidence for the Book of Mormon, and he's fine with the notion that it happened in "a different realm." I find this very interesting because I have been predicting that people would start to promote the idea that the BoM is ...

I'm still here!! Thanks for getting things up and running again! It felt weird not doing NOMference. But Oaks will probably in charge in April, so we'll have to do something special for that sh!tshow!!! I missed NOMference too. It's nice to commiserate here. Arnold on Hate
Not directly Mormon related, but Arnold Schwarzenegger has a very powerful message about the dangers of hateful thinking. Some good food for thought.

Radio Free Mormon has covered several of RMN's fish stories that fall apart when you look into them. It looks like accurate memory isn't one if RMN's gifts.
