Re: Starting a review/fact-check of Saints... chapter one done... but is it helpful or worthwhile?
Shame on me, first time I've even heard of/seen the site https://www.ldsdiscussions.com Not only did I enjoy your first saints chapter, I spent some time reading the Summary section. I now look forward to reading the essays anew with the given annotations. Nice! Spreading the word: http ...

Once again a home run podcast.
It was mentioned that Bill asked Steven four questions. Might I ask what those were?

Re: Trying to Remember 9/11
I have now read three books on the MMM. I still can't explain why anyone thought it was necessary. It's so baffling. However, as a TBM, the accounts scared me from believing that obedience was morally right. Morality is determined by the action, not by who told you to do it. Blazerb, I'm sorry for ...

Re: Elder Cook to Take on Church History Questions!
They've had 30-90 years to cover many of these topics and they haven't. They made the decision to leave it alone, to not discuss it, to hope that no one ever noticed. Worse yet, they excommunicated individuals who brought any of it to the public eye. They owe big apologies to many individuals and ...

What a painful listen.
One must have to stop by the cross roads before bothering to apply at Kirton McConkie.
How does an employee there live with themselves?

Re: The Standard of Truth?
I wonder if they covered JS getting tarred and feathered? JS could never keep his hands off of the girls. It's kind of unfortunate that the doctor they brought along chickened out. If you have lots of walk/drive time and like to listen to podcasts, these are a pretty good look at the history of the ...

Physics verses the Mind
For the last year or so I've been into listening to formal debates. Typically my confirmation bias always leans heavy to one side. However, the following debate found me very interested in both sides. Consciousness seems to be one of the last frontiers (at least to westerners). I found this ...

Re: There is no such thing as free will
To me, that's the same as defining a person as something that does not include their subconscious. If the decision came from my subconscious thinking, the way I define "me," it still came from me (proximally of course--I think "me" came from a long chain of events I didn't control). I debated ...

Different strokes for different folks ... first time I watched a Hitch debate I was super impressed, Sam a notch or two below Hitch but still enjoy most of his stuff.
Is there a link where I can read your story profit_seizer?

His philosophical positions sit on some pretty badly shifting sands and tend toward a weird sort of pseudo-philosophical Islamophobia.
I suppose you feel the same about Christopher Hitchens?

Re: There is no such thing as free will
Zack, I think you got Sam down ok. In that video he only went so far as to tie it to a better morality. The prison video was send to me by my son when I shared the link with him. Sam gave an example that struck me. He asked, "think of a city". In my mind there is a bit of a pause then about 4 cities ...

Thanks!
I started poking around in the various topics. Doctrine appears safe for now. I assume it would be best for this Bitter $LDSInc vet to avoid giving advice in the other topics.
I say/question this based on a topic I think I'll start up in doctrine.

Re: There is no such thing as free will
But if anything the Norway video makes an excellent case for free will. It struck me that with ones negative; born with issues, cause/effect and ones established world view of a long time - say 30 years, just might not take an equal amount of positive cause/effect, newly established world view to ...
