Re: Elder Bednar telling crowd to "Sit down!"
The people in that video aren't anywhere close to being orthodox believers and they're sourcing people in the post Mormon community. I have no idea what the average active church member thinks of Bednar. That's one of the hallmarks of church culture, no one says what they really think, there's a lot ...

Yes, but not by you.
That said, change in church is waiting for leadership to play catchup to changes members have already made.

Re: UFO's/UAP, Christianity & Mormonism
His conclusion? UFOs are evil spirits sent by Satan to distract us from the true gospel. Do UFOs have a message they'd like to share with us to distract us from the true gospel or is the distraction limited to 5 minutes of diversion that people could have been using to read the BoM? Bigfoot. Evil ...

Re: Following leaders
Interesting thoughts. What immediately came to my mind was a question. What would the difference be between the reaction to more restrictive rules vs. the reaction to less restrictive rules? We've seen a spate of less restrictive rules and how they were universally loved. I don't think many of the ...

Re: BoM "in a different realm"
The BoM took place in a different realm, did it? Sorry I can't come to clean the building this Saturday. You see, I've already cleaned three today on a different planet. But I do pay my tithing bishop, I'm just paying it in an alternate reality. I wear my garments both day and night. Somewhere in ...

Re: Beards, etc.
I think being clean shaven is only official policy for missionaries and people attending church universities. I assume there are also official policies against beards for temple workers, but it isn't listed on the website, at least not in a location I could find. I think there are also unwritten ...

Re: Changes in garments
It's just the most recent example of an instance where church leaders insisted members make sacrifices to obey a rule only to have the carpet yanked out from under them, causing people to question the need for those sacrifices made in the past. Don't get me wrong. I'm all for making changes that ...

Re: AI Nelson
He obviously has health issues/limitations, as any 100+ year old person would. I'm making a lot of assumptions here but I imagine he worked hard for several hours, possibly over several days to stitch together enough segments to make his prerecorded conference talk. Was all that effort just to have ...

I on the other hand being a realist attribute his long life to his wealth [snip] When I cut your sentence off where I did, I think it still holds true. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/search/research-news/8227/ Imagine what kind of impact it would have on your life if you never had to experience ...

Re: This garment underwear crack down is WEIRD!
I'm still failing to see the connection between garments and Jesus. :? I get the feeling that the rising generation isn't responding to the only motivational tools the leaders know how to use so we're seeing a rash of leaders pulling the "Jesus card" as a last act of desperation. The rising ...

Re: LDS Guesstimates
How many Mormons does it take to change a lightbulb? One super righteous Elder to preside, one wife to change the bulb, and thirty-eight sister-wives to be barefoot and in the kitchen. I was thinking along the lines of 17 million. One to change the lightbulb, and 16,999,999 to claim that the bulb ...

Re: Evangelicals
Evangelicals. What do they really teach and believe? I live in an area dominated by Evangelicals. It's hard to answer the question because "Evangelical" covers a spectrum. Further complicating matters, you don't have correlation like you do with Mormonism. For example, one Southern Baptist church ...

The very first time I took the protect the youth training that comment stood out to me as well and for the exact same reasons. Re: Louisiana Requires Ten Commandments in Classrooms
As I was reading along I thought for sure they were going to say, "from the original law giver, God."If you want to respect the rule of law,” he said, “you’ve got to start from the original law giver, which was Moses.
But no. Moses. Moses is good too... I guess.

Re: Respect
Claimed authority is the belief system.
I suspect it works from both ends. Leaders demand respect because an absence of respect chips away at the church's authority. Making authority itself a focal point of the religion creates a spiritual arrogance that makes the leaders demand respect.

Re: Annoying EQ Lesson on Garments
You attended an EQ lesson. There's your first mistake. :P Lessons like the one you endured are indeed annoying. I try to let those go in one ear and out the other. It's hot where I am too and I don't wear the garment top (nearly year-round). It doesn't matter what a person with lack of nuance ...
