Re: Very Happy Day For Me; coming full circle.
I love this! Thank you for being so insightful when it was needed. How ironic that the nonbeliever was the one to show the love that far too many believers claim but don’t practise. My daughter came out in her late teens, and I would have been so grateful to know that she had ever had that kind of s ...

Re: I'm about to be officially "outed": NOM Crowd-Sourcing
This year I have lost 75 lbs, so there were a lot of clothes I couldn’t use anymore. I donated most of them, but kept a few pieces for sentimental reasons, even though I’ll never be able to wear them without major alterations. They just don’t fit me now. Over the past several years my eyes have been ...

Re: "If you can't feel the spirit you are the problem..."
Ugh. How does anyone find inspiration in being browbeaten? The first part of the statement isn’t even necessary, because whatever the difficulty might be, we will be told, “You are the problem. You are the problem. You are the problem.”

Re: It’s ok if they don’t understand. I have nothing to prove to them.
Yes! I did my best to raise my kids with the mindset that we simply “don’t do” certain things, rather than “not being allowed” to do them. I always felt that “I’m not allowed” really meant “I would if I could”, and I didn’t want them to feel that doing the right thing was imposed on them. They have a ...

Re: It's not about you
I came to this same conclusion a couple of months ago, in treatment for PTSD caused by my abusive parents. It opened up a whole new perspective for me when I realized that it was never about me. These people had decided who I was, and, since they couldn’t bear being wrong, would never see any need t ...

Once Adam and Eve’s “eyes were opened” could they just have decided to set that aside and “choose to believe” that nothing had changed?

Re: In Which I Justify Watching a Rated R Movie
Wow, I sought the same "permission",and for the same movie! I felt that the Lord was OK with my seeing it because it would give me a perspective on the realities of war. It wasn't easy, but I did see it, and have never regretted it. Now, of course, I'd just go, and not have such angst about it. I ...

Re: Sam Young’s Collection of Priesthood Interview Stories
I'm not sure how a TBM could justify the planting of false stories in light of this verse from D&C section 10. Seems to me that lying to catch in a lie isn't the kind of thing they ought to be doing if they consider themselves valiant. Just sayin'. "25 Yea, he saith unto them: Deceive and lie in ...

Re: Why do Mormons give Trump the highest approval rating?
I think Mormons approve of Trump because so many of them already excel at world class mental gymnastics. They are so used to convoluted thinking that applying it to Trump isn't much of a stretch at all.

Re: Standing for the stake president
I knew a SP who proclaimed that he was the president of the church in his area, and even had business cards made up saying so!
As for standing up for one, I would certainly hope someone would have the Darth Vader theme blaring loud and clear as he entered.

Re: The Inoculation is Working
I would like to see a study of cases in the past when people were excommunicated for telling the truth about issues that the church wanted kept secret, only to have the essays show that those folks had been right all along.

It almost makes me want to attend a meeting he's presiding over just so I can look him in the eye as I stand up before him. Vankimber, you are my soul sister. Are you a girl? Anyway, I was thinking the EXACT same thing. My goal is to go to one of his cringe worthy sermons, casually stand up before ...

Re: Sitting and Standing
I think the guy takes pleasure in wringing out every bit of power he can whenever he's among those whom he considers to be the lowly rank and file of the church. He relishes every opportunity to remind everyone that he is not quite one of them, and his little power plays are to make sure no one ...

Re: History and the Status Quo
I grew up in the Deep South. I haven't lived there in decades, and have no desire to, but these past couple of weeks have been painfully full of cognitive dissonance almost as bad as when my shelf fell. I never once connected any of those statues with slavery. They were so prevalent, in nearly every ...

Re: When apologies are for yourself
You can still reach out, just do it elsewhere. This man almost certainly needs no apology from you, and trying to give him one would likely be extremely awkward for all involved. But you can take that energy knawing at you and use it to show kindness to someone who may need it--even just a random ...

So the church excoriates doubt, and at the same time has missionaries worldwide seeking to instill it in people of other religions. How can you not doubt a church that is so at odds with itself?

Perhaps she needs to be spoken to in her own terms--
"Whatever stewardship you imagine yourself to have, I guarantee you are reaching beyond it. Please don't do that any more. The Lord would not be pleased."
